Will Transfer Portal make Recruiting obsolete?

Instead of Recruiting High School talent and have to go through the process of development & training with the possibility of injury or attrition....why not just cherry-pick fully developed and trained 21-23 yr. old players out of the Transfer Portal every year to fill out any weak areas on your team?
Is this what CFB is coming to?

Transfer Port-a-let recruiting is for coaches like Norvell(fsu, who is rebuilding), Champ and as much as it pains me to say it, Brownell. But listen to my point, coaches that struggle to recruit, coaches that struggle to develop, and coaches that get desperate to retain their job are the only coaches that thrive living off the Port-a-let.

I know Dabo doesn’t, but the other 3 CFP teams ALL propped up their teams with TP QB’s. What’s to stop those kind of coaches from shopping the Portal for every key position to get a ONE HIT WONDER and win a Natty! Or what if they get several players? What if they integrate it into a routine every-year part of their recruiting? Is this gonna be how they beat Coaches like Dabo who try to do things the right way with integrity? What’s to stop them?

Once You open Pandora's Box, it's hard to shut it. The game is going through a transitional mess and the almighty dollar is in the middle of it all. Imagine that.

Please tell coach O that using the portal will cause LSU to suck. He seemed to have missed that memo.

I am ready for college baseball approach

Minor league for those who don't want a free education. Evens out recruiting for more even competition. There's too much money in this to be fair. I am just happy Clemson got to the top before it implodes

It is a valuable tool. Dabo may have to reconsider.

We'd end up with a great loss of character in the program.

Being a potential top college player is only the first step to qualifying to play for Clemson.

My exact thoughts this morning. Recruiting will always be important, but it is now a "LeBron James Free Agency" contest. As mentioned above, the other three teams in the playoffs had transfer QBs who were all top level players. I hope Dabo does not change his policy, but it may occasionally give other teams a needed edge in certain situations. Not taking anything away from the rest of the LSU team as I'm sure there are plenty of trolls lingering around. We got beat fair and square.

Stable foundation. It’s why we’ve been to the CFP 5 years in a row

I like your dedication to the old traditional recruiting concept but I’m sorry to say that the TP is the “new JUCO route”....On Steroids!!! Just when it appeared we’d finally reached the Top in HS Recruiting (#1 class) they’ve changed the game on us. Coaches realized last year how using TP players could trump the High School recruiting model...it’s easier, faster, and far less of a gamble! Every Coach in America noticed that 3 of the 4 teams in the CFP got there on the back of a TP elite player (all 3 QB’s) and you can bet the trend is going to be MORE TP players to more teams from now on. Programs that don’t adapt to the new system will soon be unable to break into the group of “newly elite” teams and institutions will suffer from their own resistance to the changing landscape of assembling powerhouse teams with highly skilled & experienced transfers.
It’s already happening and will only keep getting more & more prevalent!

IDK, for every Burrow, there are lots of "just ok" QB's that

want playing time. I will not name names but we all came name a few. Competition tends to weed them out.
I think Burrow and Fields are anomalies. Burrow just happens to be 24 and bloomed late. You could say they couldn't recognize or utilize talent at OSU while he was there.
Fields...you could say the same thing about UGA. Then he used an excuse and the NCAA caved.
