Why would Venables leave for Miss St?

They will never be on the same level as division rivals Bama, Aubie, and LSU. Miss isnt exactly a hot bed of recruiting. They have little to no tradition outside of cowbells.... cowbells. At best they are a stepping stone, at worst they are a HC career killer. Just don't see it.

The State of Mississippi does have talented players. Bama gets a lot of them, then Florida, Louisiana, and Texas are right there. Still, Miss St isn't known for pulling most of the talent from that area.

Kind of hard for Clemson people to knock Miss St since that's the school Mr Clemson specifically named in his will for the new college bearing his name to be modelled after.

Pretty sure we can.

Perhaps they were the model upon which Clemson was founded -- but I don't think there is any comparison today between the schools, the programs, the tradition, to the DC job here vs the HC job there.

He won’t leave for Miss St.

I'm not convinced he would leave for any head coaching position. He’s making great money as our DC. He and his family love Clemson, and he doesn’t have to deal with the stress of running an entire program.

As far as I can tell THEY want him to interview. Haven’t read anything yet saying he wants to interview.

If you can manage to go .500 there you somehow become a hot commodity. But I don't think BV is interested in climbing the ladder like that. It's not like he's some young up and comer who needs to prove himself.

They were ok for Mullen. Long term, he would be better off going to Tenn.

He's committed an act of terrorism, robbed a bank or maybe he finally broke wild and assassinated that big guy who drags him around for 60 minutes a week.

I fear we will lose him if Kansas State's Bill Snyder (who he loves like a father) calls and asks him to come.
