Why the obsession with Calculus?

My kid took 2 years of it in HIGH SCHOOL and is in Calculus 3 as a Freshman at Clemson.

Linear Algebra has far more applications in the modern world. Engineering curricula should drop some calculus and do more linear algebra and finite math.

If you take Calc 1,2,3 and DE

you can do linear algebra. DE shows up more in engineering except for computer applications and finite element applications.

I had to use a LOT of LA in my various controls classes. I wished I actually had LA in undergrad.

Exactly. I have said that since grad school in mechanical engineering at Clemson ('92). I took all of the calculus and diff eq in undergrad but found I had a HUGE linear algebra deficit in grad school.
