Why didn't anyone want us under center the last 2 years?

Maybe because we led the nation in short yardage conversions on 4th down and were one of the top short yardage teams...
Running out of the shotgun every single time. I'd say we would be more likely to fumble a snap under center.
Obviously, we may need to tweak some things now, but don't be foolish. This hasn't been an issue in the past.

Boyd's build with incredible lower body strength helped that

as well...he was a bull in short yardage. Doesn't appear that Watson has that type of build so it may help getting him closer to the line. Just a thought.

It's silly to pretend to know the answers with such faux certainty.

We probably should have won in Columbia last year as well, but the scoreboard still read in favor of the chicks. Knowing those type things may be useful for decision making, but doesn't do much for frame of mind.

It's amazing how everyone thinks lining up in the I is some magic solution that always works.
Our fans always remembered the fourth or third down we missed but somehow always forgot about all the touchdowns Lattimore scored out of the shotgun in goal line situations.

It's the 24 yard losses that rarely occur while under center***

Hindsight = 20/20, suppose that they put him under center and he fumbles the snap. Then, there's an article about how he's been fumbling in practice since training camp. What do you think the posts would be about then?

again.
Surely there is someone with the skill to go under center.
That is the point...from the 1/2 yard line anyway.

This post is just silly. We've needed a short-yardage package. Everyone does. Teams that knew our go to option on short yardage were able to stop Tajh often. VT got to hammer him on 4 straight plays in the valley a couple years back though he did end up scoring. Thank goodness Tajh was durable.

You mean like DJ Reader and Kurt Fleming plowing ground

for Choice ?
Reader was a top 20 oline recruit used as fullback as well...give those 2 a head of steam and the line is going forward.
I remember the Fridge blocking and running for TD's down at the goal line.
Nothing breaks their back line being run on....nothing.
And I also remember Tajh scoring from being under center and going off left guard.....plenty of times.

And you also have the fact that Watson scored a rushing TD via Shotgun in the next drive after the fumble.

Yes Watson scored from shotgun from the 2.

That's from the 2. But the play that cost us the game came from inside the 1 where a QB sneak is almost unstoppable. And it was 2nd down. If they do stop it we get to try again from likely the same spot. It's the details.

Inches to go, line up under center and get the ball over the goal line. Got too cute on the play call. And excuse is not on DW - kids a star - he can play from anywhere.
