The plant my father works at would lose anywhere from 3-5 million per day from what he says if they were to completely shut down.

I believe they did have some sort of insurance that covered it. Never did get all the files back though.

We were locked down by 1 user clicking a coupon! Emails threatening deletion if no bitcoin paid.
I restored overnight, added additional encryption and security of network traffic. Ransom pirates wanted $180k. To help the math, it would have taken 22+ years of backup fees to equal one pirating bounty. Easy choice to make. You're also not relinquishing your IP and personal data at the same time.
we pay around $700/mth to backup around 3 TB nightly. 30-day redundancy and so on. (we're ISO and have to adhere to backup schedule now)
