It could not be any worse than what Syracuse did to us in 1995. I would love another shot at them. I have been waiting twenty years to play UCONN in something, particularly basketball, but I don't think this would be a time for our basketball team to get any type of revenge. I would get some gratification out of beating them on a hail mary pass as time expires....that would be, well, sweet.

I think UConn & WVU would be favored over Clemson. I think Pitt would be about even money. I think we could beat Syracuse but then again, BC beat Syracuse 16-7 and beat us 16-10 so there doesn't seem to be much difference between Clemson and Syracuse.

promote all the yrs "certain coach" has gone to a bowl.
look for letter in mail to donate more money to continue the tradition of clemson going to bowls.
this is what clemson football has become.

Stop being callus and support the Tigers get a bowl!
Dec 1, 2010, 12:29 PM

A bowl is good for the school. Complaining on TNet does nothing positive for our school or team. Just either email the bowl showing that we WILL support our team, or send nothing at all. Don't discourage others. Stop being pompus as well. Not every bowl would want us. We have to show that we would actually go to the bowl to sway the board.

Some of you people make me sick
Dec 1, 2010, 8:44 PM
|
|
I am not at all happy with the current state of the program. But to deny the PLAYERS the opportunity to compete one more time, the extra practice time and allowing Boyd to start his run as a starter is just stupid. All of you who say you won't go, fine. Don't watch it either. How miserable is your life that you act like your life and the happiness in it is determined by Clemson football.
I'll be watching whatever game they go to. HOPEFULLY it will actually be on tv here in Afghanistan.
I want to win as much as anyone, but going to a game means a lot more to me than winning and losing. It's the tailgate time with my son, the time spent with friends and family. Win or lose I'll support the kids that go out and bust their a$$ for Clemson each week. Changes do need to be made, but not supporting this team when times are bad is just bad taste.

I have to agree with this poster.....I am supporting my Clemson team no matter where they go because Clemson is my one and only team and these players give all they have each and every week. Yes, sometimes the long snapper gets a piece of grass in his eye, the field goal kickers are not wearing the right shoes or the laces are facing the wrong way, or the QB loses a contact just before delivering the ball to the other team .....sh*t happens. We really need to get back on the administration for allowing the entire athletic dept to go to hell...because it has. But keep supporting our players, they are our teams and do the best they can!!! Go Tigers!!!

The problem with that being the fact that the last time we went on a fax campaign to garner a bowl invitation we got the bid and the fans didn't show up.
Get a reputation for that and you'll need a fax campaign every year that the bid isn't automatic.

the rules are what they are, and we should work them to our advantage. There will be lots of other teams that don't deserve to go either. No need to unnessarily put yourself at a disadvantage. I'm sending the emails, and making the most of the situation bad as the season may have been.
Bowls need to be cut down for sure. However, I'm saving that arguement for a different time. Today, I'm supporting my team under the current rules.

"The rules are what they are, and we should work them to our advantage."
Something about that, not that it has anything to do with Clemson, but I can't help but believe Cecil Newton said something to himself along those lines to justify what he was doing.
Just because you CAN do something doesn't mean you SHOULD.

We need the practice and Tajh needs to be working with the first team. It will help us for next year. That being said, if Kyle Parker starts, my confidence in Dabo's coaching and leadership abilities will be forever squashed! He may play because he has earned it, but he has not earned the right to start. Go Tigers!

Help Clemson become Notre Dame...
Dec 1, 2010, 12:37 PM

A junk team that gets in bowls they don't deserve because their fans travel well.
Good job guys!
In 2007 we got into the Peach, and lost to Auburn. In 2008 we got into the Gator, and lost to Nebraska.
Look where those teams are now.

We barely lost both of those games...and this is against the Big East..we will have the more talented, better team regardless of who we would play. Not that we would win, just that we should win.

We were once a MIGHTY FORCE on the football field. Teams used to be LITERALLY AFRAID to come to Death Valley. And this was the case EVERY YEAR.
Begging to lose money playing in a crappy bowl just to make a couple of 2-star prospects think about maybe coming to Clemson is SO FAR SHORT of the big picture that it is humiliating and desperate.
If you want to impress recruits, then REFUSE ALL of these crappy bowl bids and make a PUBLIC STATEMENT that Clemson is better than that, and that every single measure will be taken starting TODAY...from the President on down to the Jervey janitor...to build this back into an ELITE, TOP TEN program ANNUALLY, and to put FEAR back into the hearts of ouropponents.
I'm starting to think that Tiger pride died and was buried with our sports program years ago...and there aren't enough people around who still remember those days of FEAR and DOMINATION. The majority now just remember mdiocrity, since that's all they've ever seen. And even worse, mediocrity now seems to be the goal.
So fax away and email to your heart's content, but I ain't doing it. We've got bigger fish to fry here. The sooner everybody in and around the program realize that, the sooner things may start to change.

I agree there needs to be changes as far as the OC and AD go. But what the hell does boycotting a bowl game do for Clemson? Just helps lose the #5 recruiting class in the nation and run the program more downhill. I am pretty sure the Board of Directors know the disention...let's do OUR part as true Clemson fans and minimize the damage.
Please don't tell me you graduated from Clemson; use your brain.

To think that fans can even so much as minimize the damage done by TDP, DS, etc is akin to thinking you can help put out a California wildfire with a squirt gun.

part of me would still like to see DS turn down an invitation simply to send the msg that we arent satisfied with where we are.
BUT there are benefits of playing another game: - hopefully Boyd will get his first FULL game as starter as fr - watching Bowers terrorize another college QB, etc
So I say, give me Charlotte!

The conference would not let Clemson turn down a bowl bid without good cause, for 2 reasons: (1) money, (2) image. The ACC front office does as much if not more back-door deals with the bowls than any other conference to make sure they get the lineup they want. Any team that dared to step in and screw up those dealings would get a lot more than a wrist slap from the conference, I suspect. They would probably withhold Clemson's allocation of bowl revenues. Remember, the ACC pools all the money that its teams make from bowls and allocates it evenly among member institutions.
Charlotte is not my favorite place to go bowling by any stretch of the imagination, but it has a couple things going for it this year. It's practically a home game. It's against what is presumably a decent-quality opponent (though given it's the Big East, that's questionable). And it will hopefully give our developing players--Boyd, Nuke, Brown, etc--additional in-game experience that they obviously need.
Also, I'd love to see us screw UNC out of a bowl game that's in their backyard. Send them to El Paso or middle-of-nowhere, Louisiana or something.

Do not cut and run ever!!! Let's get some explosive guys back on the field and see what our coaches can do then. Giving up on the guy after two years is pathetic. He is getting four years regardless, so support the #### team! This notion no one cares is ridiculous. How much money has been spent the last few years to have the best facilities? Weakening support will only cause more conservative decisions in the future. Jeez!!!!

All I can say is that its been a strange season. A season full of brain farts and lost opportunities, with few shining moments. This team was a continual tease in that it seemed to have the talent to win every game it played sans south carolina, yet they constantly found ways to shoot themselves in the foot.
The execution/chemistry on offense seemed to be the main culprit, as the defense routinely played well, though the "D" had some harmful miscues as well. They were in the hunt and competetive in every game besides the South Carolina game, where they looked over-matched. Though nobody likes to admit it, the Gamecocks were better than us for the second year in a row. Give them credit, Carolina won their division in the strongest conference out there, and did so convincingly(did you see them wax the Florida Gators to clinch the division?)
This team may not feel like a bowl worthy team, but bottom line is they are 4-4 in the ACC, and their two nonconference losses were to the 2 division winners(Auburn, South Carolina)from the top conference in America. The schedule turned out to be a bit overwhelming this year for the young, unproven offense, but 4-4 in the ACC and the fact that they were competetive and had a shot to win every game besides Carolina adds up to a bowl worthy team in todays bowl climate, where u have so many teams going to a bowl.
So hopefully they get to a bowl which allows them to get valuable experience for next year, and perhaps end the season with a win.

I sent an e-mail b/c I love going to bowl games and don't want to travel far this year. Charlotte would be a nice pick with as lousy as a season as we've had. I'm not a fair whether fan though and will support Clemson good or bad.

It's not that I'm against CLEMSON going to a bowl ...
Dec 1, 2010, 3:38 PM
|

I'm against any 6 win team going. It has weakened the prestige of getting a bowl bid. At one time, when there were 10 game and even 11 game seasons, 6 wins was a good standard. But even then the quality of wins came into play.
Now we play 12 games and a lot more of the smaller schools are FBS schools, such as North Texas and Presbyterian College. I think the standard should be raised so it's meaningful to go to a bowl game again.
Now that there are 12 games seasons and smaller schools being FBS schools, they had no choice but to increase the amount of bowls. The standards are lower than they once were (because of better chances of getting a 6 win season) so teams that normally would not be eligible, are.
With that said, I will be watching whatever bowl our Tigers get, and if it's in Charlotte, will more than likely be attending. That's because I am a Tiger fan! But Tiger fan or not, I don't think 6-6 is anything that should make us proud.

Why are we doing this.?
Dec 1, 2010, 4:42 PM
|
|
Correct me if I am wrong, but the reason why "Tigernet" folks have "campaigned" in the past was because we were not assured a bowl berth in 2001 (Humanitarian Bowl against La. Tech) and we helped show the Peach / Gator bowls that we were a solid money pick for them in past games.
But this year, the facts are this: 1st, Clemson is going to a bowl game. Its a Lock...
2nd, After the Tangerine Bowl (we are not going..) the remaing bowl are pretty much even.. Some offer a better travel destination, some offer a better opponent, etc.
So if we are going to a bowl game, and there is not much distinction between the games, why blow up the committees phone lines or equipment. Seem pointless to me.
Now if the team, had a specfic choice/request, then I might be inclined to help lobby for them. So the real question is, where does the team want to go? Let me know, and I will help..
But I am not in the mood to beg a bowl game to take us. Clemson Fans history of traveling well speaks for itself. If a minor league bowl is to stupid to realise this, then obivously the bowl game is run by a bunch of clowns. And is probably not a good game to go to anyway.
We need to blow up the fax machines when it counts. It does not count this year. So we need to save the ammo for a special occasion. Its kind of like wearing Orange Pants for big games (well that is a bad analogy.. but you get the point).
Just my thoughts.
Go Tigers. LNT.

Clemson will travel better than most teams. However, I think with the current level of dissatisfaction, far fewer Clemson fans will go to any bowl destination this year. I went to all the home gains plus Auburn and will not be going to any bowl game this year. I will watch on TV.

We DO NOT deserve any bowl. This is one of the most lackluster Clemson offenses in my memory. When will the people who support the university realize that we need a good ole fashioned "house cleaning"? I believe this happened around 1975. We need to throw away useless items again, and start fresh.

Bandwagon? What Bandwagon? Clemson Football has been an embarrassment for decades. Who are you kidding?
I'm a grad, I've been following the team for 40+ years and have been disappointed for about 36 of them. Even the so-called Golden Age of Danny Ford was an embarrassment in the end which left our rep in tatters.
Here is Clemson Football, without exception. They will always lose to at least one, and usually 2 or 3 teams they should beat. They will come up for air with a game, maybe two when they beat a team they should lose to. They will always play down to the level of the opposition.

I don't think this team should go to any bowl. 6-6? They should have to stay home and think about how they played. Guess I'm a hard-ass, but I wouldn't let 'em touch Howard's Rock either. I didn't see an all-out effort this year during any game.
I also would not allow the Orange Pants until they earned the right to wear them, like an undefeated season at Memorial Stadium Note, I did not call it Death Valley. Death Valley? It's a joke. It's a wanted destination now. And Clemson is a great team to play for Homecoming. Odds are 50-50 you'll win, maybe better.
Clemson Football is an embarrassment to the state.
If I were god I'd clean house from the AD on down. I'd get their attention.
Oh, and who wants to play in Charlotte in December, or anytime for that matter, or Nashville, or Shreveport, or Boise, or ...

I agree. That's why I can't stand to read this negative crap. I'm not happy with 6-6 but I still love the tigers and hate the chickens.

how sad is it that tiger fans are being asked to beg the toilet bowl leaders to allow us to play in their crap bowl. i'm going to write to ask them NOT to have us in it. We don't deserve a bowl, and frankly this bowl should be viewed as beneath Clemson.

you guys sending emails really are pitiful. I am a Clemson grad and a lifelong fan. I am not at all against Dabo. I am actually pulling for him to get this thing corrected and making some adjustments...
However, how any sane person could beg(which is what you are essentially doing) a sorry low tier bowl to take your sorry low tier team is beyond pathetic and just reeks of desperation. Its like begging the fat girl to go to prom with you cause all the hot chicks are taken. Then you make stupid excuses, like why shouldn't I go to my senior prom? Its good for my future. I will regret not going...
Whatever I think we should go to a bowl if invited, but I refuse, and surely anyone with any self pride should as well, to beg the fat girl to go to the prom with me.

Hey, fat girls want to go to the prom also!!! But I agree 100% with NOT writing for the ghetto bowl. But the truth of the matter is that, if I wasn't sick. I would surely go to any bowl that close to home. I don't blame the kids for this horriable season. I blame the ones that have been hired and payed to teach them better than they have been taught. After all, we all welcomed everyone of those kids to Clemson when they came. GOOOOOO TIGERSSSSSSS !!!!!!

Would love to go to the Meineke Car Care Bowl, only a 20 minute drive from the house, but I'm not begging for it. Their committee knows what Clemson is about and what we bring to the table. If they want us, we'll get the invite.

Am I disappointed in our 6-6 record? yes.

Am I disappointed we lost to the coots 2 years in a row? yes.
Am I disappointed we are "trying" to get into the Tire Bowl? yes.
BUT... Does that mean I give up on my team? No!
Does that mean I don't want to see them play one last time this season? No!
Does that mean I am ashamed to email the bowl committe and ask them to pick Clemson? No!
I am a Clemson Tiger fan through and through. Some of you can pi$$ and moan all you want, the season is what it is, but it's still not over. We have one more game and I'll be there to cheer on my Tigers!!!!!

I'll help Clemson get to the Car Care Bowl next year by asking them to follow some advice.
Don't give your best playmaker only 11 touches against UNC despite the fact it is clear they can't stop him.
Don't throw the ball 44 times (especially in the red zone) against FSU when the running game is effective.
Don't throw the ball 39 times against Boston College when they have the 104th ranked defense in the country.
Don't even bother getting off the team bus if you're going to flush 40 years of tradition down the toilet against your rival by looking disorganized, undisciplined, unmotivated and completely outclassed.
I'll admit I was wrong when I said hiring Dabo was just like extending the Bowden era. For all that was wrong with Tommy, he did almost always have a signature win and he did outcoach anyone from Columbia.
This team doesn't deserve a bowl game this year.

Really, you take the two "tune up" games out, which do more harm than good in my opinion...we should be playing mid & upper echelon teams ONLY, NO more push overs, hence I rationalize we are really only 4-6, and are not worthy or qualified for any bowl invite (but I do look forward to see exactly what Dabo does to MAYBE adjust or send a signal...if at all! If he doesn't, then THAT is a matter that should concern us ALL). Also, if by some miracle we get to the Meineke (without using knee pads), or any other inconsequential bowl, it almost gives TDP & Dabo a pass, and thus the fans lose accountability for a dismal regular season performance (and a mediocre 10-12 year trend), PLUS the BOT, Barker & TDP avoid the full wrath of potential lost ticket sales, IPTAY donations, empty seats, etc...the soft protests of disgruntled Alumini, Contributors and peeved Fans, that I submit is THE ONLY WAY they will make a costly, but meaningful direction and change in the Football Program! Those a-holes need to FEEL THE PAIN of a fanbase that is embarassed, and sick & tired of inconsistent tier2 program/results. Heck, nationally/regionally, CU has become a JOKE! I am as loyal as ANYBODY (but I am realistic), but our school, fans and players deserve better, which I contend is to return CU as a team and a force to be reckoned EVERY WEEK, in EVERY GAME, by EVERY CONFERENCE, that is how I expect the Tigers to ELEVATE!
Go Tiger Nation, and Happy Holidays Tigers & Fans!
