Why are people standing up for the BIG10 champ?

Nov 29, 2016, 12:10 PM

At the end of the day either team has 2 losses and Ohio State has one. The head to head is irrelevant because they have an extra loss on their record.

I think they value conference championships for tie breakers, but it's not the be end all.

Thank you, I mean to use that head to head logic would argue that pitt should be above us even know they have many more losses than us.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No..not the same logic. Pitt did not win

Nov 29, 2016, 12:34 PM

A conference cham. Wis or psu WILL.

Head to head was used to put psu in the champ game over osu. That was the big's decision..not the cfpc.

Cfpc shouldn't have to rectify the big's decision.

because the committee has stated multiple times the criteria

Nov 29, 2016, 12:14 PM

they look at...

1. conference champions
2. head to head
3. etc. etc.

they also stated the only way a non conference champion gets in over the conference champion is that they are 'unequivocally' better than the other. I dont think, since PSU beat OSU on the field, they can say this. even though i think we'd all agree OSU is the better team, you cant make that statement when the game was actually played on the field.

the committee has never stated, even though its implied, that overall record is the main criteria. that is a problem, in my mind!

Plus, lets say PSU or Wisc. had 3 losses and won the championship... do u really put a 3 loss team in the playoff???

I ultimately think Washington is the team that gets screwed in this scenario. then the committee will have all kinds of credibility issues.

WHich hocutt said last week, osu and psu are not remotely close. Once again watch the entire show, possibly the only valuable part of the cfp show is the interview with the committee. The rest is just ESPN spewing garbage to make people watch and click on links.

THAT Is Exactly THE Same Flaw IN THE NC as it

Nov 29, 2016, 12:40 PM

Always has been. People using opinions.

If osu is the bEST team in the big then the big should figure oUT a better, fair and unbiased, way to put their best team in the playoff.

It shouldn't be the responsibilty of the playoff committee.

Except it is their responsibility not the conference; kinda the premise of the entire committee and playoff

Committee is not forward thinking. Only looks at right now

A lot can change if you add an extra game, a win over a highly ranked Wisc, and a conference championship.

Wisconsin isnt really going to be a quality win, their signature win is against Iowa?
The big10 championship just happens to be a cluster this year, any other year I would be more confident of their champion deserving to be in

resumes are very close. IMO OSU's resume is far better than PSUs right now. PSU can close the gap a little with a win over Wisconsin, but they will still have an additional loss against what i consider to be a slightly weaker schedule. OSU went on the road and beat OU in Norman. They also already played Wisconsin in the regular season while PSU got to play bottom feeder Purdue.

Conference championships are not the be-all, end-all,

Nov 29, 2016, 12:26 PM

but it is of prime importance when ranking teams and considering "otherwise comparable teams":

2. Principles. The committee will select the teams using a process that distinguishes among otherwise comparable teams by considering:

* Conference championships won, * Strength of schedule, * Head-to-head competition, * Comparative outcomes of common opponents (without incenting margin of victory), and, * Other relevant factors such as key injuries that may have affected a team’s performance during the season or likely will affect its postseason performance.

The question will be, does the committee consider OSU and PSU to be comparable teams. If so, then PSU is in. If not, PSU is out. Of further interest will be if PSU gets in, will OSU get in as well?

Penn St just needs to make an example out if Wisconsin and all this talk of OSU goes away.

Conference champ. Check
Head to head. Check
OSU currently has a 4-1 in versus Top 25 opponents but could lose Nebraska tonight and Penn St has a 1-1, which could change to a 2-1, 3-1, or 4-1 tonight (Iowa/Temple/Pitt) and another +1 with winning the B1G Championship. So, it ain't so much about OSU here either, like the media is stating it.
That leaves like opponents, where OSU has the Michigan win as their lone feather, this is where beating Wisconsin convincingly matters.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They will also have an extra win that osu wont

Nov 29, 2016, 12:29 PM

The point is to make it clear and simple.

Eliminate the kind of bias you are showing right now.

Because PSU will have as many wins as OSU and a head to head win and a conference title.
