Why an Undefeated Clemson Goes to the Playoffs

I will caveat this with, a 1-loss Clemson misses the playoff. Here are the reasons:

1) SEC Champ will go

2) Big 10 Champ will go if undefeated, a 1-loss B10 Champ would be a toss up against Clemson as undefeated ACC Champ

3) PAC 10 Champ will likely not be undefeated or high enough ranked to go ahead of undefeated ACC Champ

4) Big 12 Champ will go if undefeated, but a 1-loss B12 Champ would not go over an undefeated ACC Champ

5) This comes down to ND. I can see ND going over a 1-loss Power 5 champ but a Power 5 champ who's last win of the season will be over likely a top 20 and possibly top 15 team will go ahead of ND. ND, like everyone else needs to join a conference to have the ability to play.

6) The SEC teams pretty much sort themselves out and the only real threat would be an Alabama that misses the SECCG like last year. UGA and/or LSU won't get that mulligan.

Clemson also has a streak of consistently going to playoffs and a respectable record in them 3-2 w/a Championship. They do have the benefit of the doubt. Clemson wins out and has very little to worry about. Plus Brian Kelly is an Effin Hobbit.

Could have just deleted “why” from the title and stuck with that. No explanation needed. An undefeated team from any P5 is getting in no matter what. That’s a guarantee.

Perfect example is FSU 2014. Everyone knew they had no business in the playoff (Oregon more than proved that), but they were undefeated. I’m not even mad they made it. They deserved and earned it.

Well have to see but right now an undeafeated tOSU gets in, an undefeated OU gets in, SEC champ gets in( Bama likely), kicker comes from a 1 loss UGA that plays Bama very tight in SECCG. Now toss in an undefeated ND to poke a stick in the spokes of the CFP. There is a scenario that leaves us on the outside looking in this year due to SOS and how we have played up to this point. Still way too early to be worrying over the CFP though, gotta get the offense clicking like we know it can and it will take care of all ills.

No way there are that many undefeated teams when it comes around to playoff selection time. Interesting to talk about though.
