John Swofford looking pretty good right now

Jan 2, 2013, 10:57 PM

Louisville obviously great choice for your conference. Maybe one day people will look upon the Md to Louisville exchange as a trade up. Louisville's athletic budget dwarfs Md's and that has to be good for the conference.

The academic snobs didn't think that, but I've always considered the "academic fit" criteria as a source of some prior bad choices.

Academics should not determine conference affiliation. I think it's bull crap that we didn't add West Virginia. They have they high flying offense with no defense so they fit in the Big 12 but they are so far away from everyone else they will be looking to bounce out of that situation as soon as they can.

So you're saying you guys, FSU and the two Techs made him do the right thing? There is a certain in comfort in that; I'd hate to revise my opinion of him.

Louisville is an upgrade but I didn't want it.

Jan 2, 2013, 11:13 PM

Maryland is ACC tradition, geographic fit, great rivalries and a great potential TV market. And yes, a better academic institution. Louisville is great basketball and good football right now.

I've got nothing against Louisville and I'm rooting for them tonight, but Maryland should be in the ACC. NO ONE likes this move. The Big 10 sees Maryland as Penn State insurance and new TV markets. Maryland sees the Big 10 as a fix for their pathetic Athletic Department management.

I don't blame Swofford for this (and I blame Swofford for most everything), aside from the fact that he could not overcome the ACC's academic concerns to get West Virginia in (a much better fit than Louisville). This is Maryland's fault.

He is representative of all that is wrong with the ACC - Tobacco Road!

Appreciate the post, I like an outsider's opinion on things too.
