The beauty of being an adult is that you can wear anything (within the parameters of good taste) you so choose. Seems those not so secure in themselves try to make rules about what others should wear. I received a #10 Ben Boulware Jersey and we have only lost 4 games since I got it in 2015 before the Notre Dame game. Go Tigers!

The people who have a problem with it are "over-thinking it"! They feel you are idolizing the player and not showing support for the team. They don't get that really; it's just another style of shirt of the plethora of styles out there!
What they think is none of your business! Wear your jersey and when they have an issue with it; let them live as they should you! You are just not insecure and maybe they are.

Real men do not think about or care much what other men wear. It's my observation that you are unlikely to see a real man wearing a jersey or painting his face at a game in which he is not playing.

Of course, my observation is also that real men are unlikely to dress like Power Rangers on Halloween, but that is clearly ok for some very real men.

Do what suits you. If you can chunk the football over those distant mountains, go ahead. Do what suits you. Heck I've seen Clemson college students wearing long sleeve shirts and ties over shorts at games in September. It's hard to imagine a sillier look, but again, do what suits you.
