What's the next jersey number we will retire?

Jul 11, 2012, 7:38 PM

If Sammy plays the next two years like he can it may be No. 2.

But I think it'll be #93-- Gaines and Da'Quan deserve it in my opinion.

Thoughts?

Clemson doesn't usually retire jersey numbers...

CJ Spiller's was the first in a very long time. Clemson needs to "officially" retire #38, #34, & #14 in baseball to honor Bill Wilhelm, Kris Benson, and Khalil Greene. They have not been worn since those individuals last wore them, but they aren't officially retired and that needs to change. Likewise, no one has worn #41 in basketball since Elden Campbell but it isn't "officially" retired either.

If watkins progresses each year he will break a lot of school records and some national records after his jr year. If he stays his sr year he will shatter a lot of records and win the Heisman (maybe for the 2nd time). Him staying his sr. year at this point is less than 5% though. So, my vote would be that watkins' number is the next to be retired.

I agree with you on Sammy but, not before the already Clemson greats get retired. I have always been one that feels that its never a good idea to put the cart before the horse.

Hoping we don't retire any more numbers.

People can be recognized in other ways. With the players we are recruiting now, we won't have any numbers left before long. :)

You can never EVER run out of numbers. Numbers are equal to time. Numbers will be right their along beside time until the end of time....

Good point. I think a lot of teams are doing this including the pros.
