What's hurting college basketball attendance?

Mar 4, 2014, 12:19 AM

Zone defenses. Go NBA style, zone not allowed.

Too long a shot clock. Go to 30 or less. Like girls bb and NBA.

Too many time outs, have just 5 a team for the whole game. In soccer there are no timeouts allowed.

Too many foul shots. Don't have any ideas about that.

No continuation rule.

zone has been legal in the NBA for several years. Schools that care about basketball have no problem with attendance. Cuse has more fans at the pregame shoot around and hour and a half before the game than Clemson gets at a game.

I stand corrected, the rule did change,
However,

If a defensive player spends more
than three seconds in the free throw lane (also known as the 16-foot lane, or colloquially as "in the paint") while not actively guarding an opponent. To be considered actively guarding, a defender must be within arm's length of an opponent and in a guarding position.[1] A three second count is suspended if: Etc.

Let players substitute on the run, like in hockey.

Make the shot clock 15 seconds.

Make the ball smaller and the rim bigger.

First one to 60 wins.

Shut down the internet campus-wide during athletic events.

Make the coaches wear basketball uniforms.

If one coach gets T'd up, make the other coach shoot the FTs.

Mascot battle to the death at halftime.

I do like the opposing coach shooting the technical free throws idea.

How about a total height limit on the floor at all times?
Say @ 30' 10" per team. (6' 2" average per player).
So if you wanted to play a 7' center you need to have a Monty Towe or Spud Webb or several undersized players to put on the court. Make a place in the game for the small guy again.

What happened to us being a jock school like the 90's? Clemson basketball ranked #2 behind Wake Forest one year. Baseball team went to Omaha? Tommy West coached football teams were thugs that hung out between Holmes and McCabe. Ah, the good ole days.

Anyway, BB team starts winning regularly and the rest will take care of itself. Same issue with baseball although we still have passionate support for the team based upon all the Jack-haters on Tnet since the weekend.

Go Tigers!

How do you keep Gamecocks out of your yard?
• Put up goal posts
What does a Gamecock grad call a Clemson Tiger grad in 2 years?
• Boss

Nationwide I'd say its the randomness of game dates

Mar 4, 2014, 8:54 AM

we've played a game on every night of the week but Monday. Traditionally basketball has been a Wednesday (maybe Thursday) and then Saturday. Sunday games were usually just "big" games.

ACC and ESPN TV contracts are probably hurting attendance in the sense that folks might look up and go "crap, we ARE playing tonight."

Wait I actually didn't mean to give you a point there; too many timeouts? Not enough.

The facts of the matter remain that nobody wants to see anybody tire out. More timeouts the merrier. Plus I think we should add alcohol to the in-game drink scheme but that's just my rationality talking.

Have no out of bounds. Build a wall like hockey but taller and play it off the wall.
