What will be your menu for the Sugar Bowl?

Trying to make some plans myself with the expectation of having some folks over for a game party. Since it will be middle aged men and women, I've got to do better than take out pizza and beer. What are you all doing?

January 1st, Southern style...

Pig on the grille as a pig roots forward, which symbolizes progress.
Greens for money.
Black-eyed peas, the veg-e-table, not the band although in her day, Stacy Ferguson looked dang good on the menu. Each pea eaten is a day of luck; don't short-change the year.
And lastly, cornbread, golden like the goose.

my usual Jalepeno Cornbread, Collard greens and Black Eyed peas cooked with Ham Hocks. (all four dogs get the meat of the ham hocks for their new years celebration)
But twist will be in honor of sugar bowl Beignets and Gumbo
And maybe some crab soup, just got a killer recipe for it.

Deep fry them and then throw them on the grill a couple minutes after to get that smokey taste. Hit them with a heavy dose of Old Bay and serve them with some ranch. Always a hit.

Do you put on the old bay before or after cooking?
Looks like a recipe I'd like to try

I sprinkle it on while they're on the grill.

When they still are a little wet so it sticks really nicely. I use a brush as well just to spread it nicely and let it soak in the juices.

I’m going to smoke some ribs with mac&cheese, green beans and eggs on the half shell. Of course I will visit Mom’s for the traditional New Years meal for lunch.
For beverage I’ll go with something Beachwood Aged

I'll grill wings and grill some corn cob.
Wife will make her famous tostito dip; velveeta cheese, jar salsa and spicy sausage. Yummy.

If you don't cook much, I'd suggest a trip through the deli section of your friendly grocery or warehouse store. Pick up a fruit tray, cheese tray, sandwich or chicken platter, and a dessert tray. You can still do chips & salsa, but upgrade to blue corn chips. It will look like you made a lot of effort, even if you just swipe your debit card and remove lids from trays.
