I believe it was a variety of things and one of the primary reasons was to be a decoy and a second reason was to add another wrinkle or an alternative package.

They were hoping that the DB was going to take a cheapshot and then Dabo was gonna go get George Sink and sue the DBs whole family and donate all the money to Clemson football.

I think it was strictly decoy. Not only now but for weeks to come. Stats and replay will show that Clemson ran several plays with Watson at wide receiver even though he never went out for a pass. HEY OPPOSING TEAMS, GAME PLAN THIS! I'm sure there are at least a couple different plays out of that look. The real question is, do we see it again?

prevents them from substituting to stop the run so Bryant has room to run. Creates lots of potential options that opponents have to prepare for and it keeps Watson out of the fray.

To look at and prepare for each week the less time they have to prepare for the rest of the offense You only get so much practice time so let them see something new each week.
