He was saying we had to have the opportunity to catch the ball. My guess is he knew we didn't call an fair catch, but that doesn't mean you don't lobby for it. Our guys should have known that was an option.

He was confused about a rule that is really written poorly in the rule book.

Plus the refs jobbed Clemson at the end of the first half...CLOCK STOPS ON FIRST DOWNS...If they stop the clock there, Clemson may get a Touch Down or they may get 10 yards closer for an easier kick. It very well cost them 3 to 7 points.

And this is coming from a USC fan.

The refs were really bad and inconsistent last night. He had every right to be mad. He was wrong in that one instance, but I think it was boil over from bad calls earlier.

You can't "Impede a reciever/returner" from making a catch.

Also in the USC/Clemson game, the USC guy called for a fair catch.

In the game last night, there wasn't a Clemson guy there to make a catch. This may have to do with Dabo coaching them to not guard the sideline?

The thing is, the rule is written really vaguely. I bet the NCAA re-writes it to clarify, similar to the "Tuck Rule" in the NFL after the Patriots/Raiders Game in 2001 (maybe 2002).

You know its poorly written/understood when they change/re-write right after it becomes a focal point in the biggest stage.

If this happened at a Wofford vs Furman game, no one would care.

But this happened in the NCAACG.

South Carolina two years ago. The ball has to bounce off the ground before the kicking team touches it and the ball was pooched off the tee, never striking the ground.

We did it against USuC at in the Valley in 2014 and it was overturned..but not last night.
