What is this boards obsession with bunting?

Apr 17, 2019, 1:37 AM

Some of y’all act like all our problems would be solved playing small ball. Well guess what? They don’t play small in the majors any more. And kids come here to go pro. You don’t have to like it but get use to it.

We aren’t going to bunt our way to an ACC title or Regional or Omaha anyway.

Because if Clemson could bunt, the Tigers would

You don’t have to live by it, but you have to have it in the arsenal. If you can’t play fundamental baseball. You won’t win a championship. No excuse for our guys not being able to lay a bunt down.

There are situations that call for the bunt. The very few times we try, it looks like we have no clue how to lay one down.

No we don't.

I do not see the fundamentals of bunting being implemented. Hence, they are not being taught.

Dang dude - you cannot live by the bunt like Jack tried to do, but when the situation calls for a bunt, then lay the dang thing down and move the runner into scoring position. It is HOW YOU WIN GAMES. Good grief.

It is a big difference between small ball in the 2nd or 3rd inning compared to 8th, 9th or extra innings. In the 2nd a home team would have 8 innings to match 1 run. In the 9th or extra innings, 3 outs sends them home with a loss.

Brad Brownell bunts all the time...

For me, I would be more curious about the 'era' in which the "bunters" played ball... as I think you are right, as some dynamics have changed. While I agree that there are some situations that might call for it, it is no niche (thus anticipated) that I wonder if statistically relevant.

Bunting is one of the worst percentage plays in baseball

there's a reason you never see it anymore in pro ball except from pitchers
