What happens in a 3-way SEC 1 loss scenario?

Oct 27, 2019, 10:31 AM

If Florida wins out and wins the east. Alabama beats LSU.

Florida beats Alabama in SEC title.

12-1 Florida SEC champion with loss to LSU
12-1 Alabama with win over LSU
11-1 LSU with win over Florida.

I can’t see any way they would leave both Alabama and LSU out in this case. I guess LSU gets left out here?

Who are Big 12 and PAC champs in this hypothetical scenario?

National media will never give the nod to any 1 loss Team

Over a one loss team from the mighty SEC. even us.

Yep. It seems like with teams with same amount of losses

The default tiebreaker is SEC. Even if an SEC team has 1 more loss, arguments are made. Like I bet people will argue for 1 loss SEC over a potentially undefeated Baylor or Minnesota.

I know it’s not how it happened but

I’d love to see Florida go and not Bama and/LSU

I think winning the conference has to be the ultimate tie breaker.

Fortunately, the CFP Committee is not composed only of residents of Birmingham Alabama.

In the scenario you outlined, Florida would go to the CPF as a 1 loss SEC Title Holder.

Clemson could go as an undefeated, ACC Champion, on a 28 game winning streak.

Ohio State could go as an undefeated, Big Ten Champ, widely believed to be the best team in college football by many people.

Oklahoma or Baylor could go to the CFP as a 1 loss or undefeated Champ.

Oregon could go to the CFP as a 1 loss Conference Champion.

If Penn State is a 1 loss runner up in the Big 10, PSU would have some support with no losses outside their conference. If LSU and Alabama only have 1 loss each, they would be considered.

If I were on the playoff committee, I'd be in favor of undefeated or 1 loss conference champs, especially if I could find a reason to make the CFP more nationally than regionally oriented by choosing such a team over an SEC team, which has had 2 teams in the playoffs in the past.

Florida loses badly in the playoff.
