What I was told late this afternoon

Dec 12, 2012, 6:29 PM

Was talking with a man I have known for years, his son in law was on the Ark State staff and is now on Ol Miss'. We were talking about the Robinson decommit and I commented on Ol Miss' recent "luck" in recruits and he said " you know, my son in law told me that they are using the ACC against Clemson and FSU. They are telling recruits that when the new playoff system begins that the ACC and teams that play in it will be irrelevant..so why would you want to go there and never have a chance to compete for a championship." Now...believe it, don't believe it..criticize or don't criticize..just passin on what I thought was very interesting. I'm sure Ol Miss is not the only one saying this

Robinson has personally said himself that Clemson being in the ACC had a huge impact on him decommiting. I believe this is the case and has been. If Clemson was in the SEC, we could get whoever we wanted with everything else we have to offer. The ACC is irrelevant and will continue to be so. We need to get out. It is the second worst conference in college football, one that is the laughing stock of the country and one that will continue to be one. If we want respect from anyone, we need to leave. Just my opinion, everyone freak out now about ESPN's SEC bias. Are they biased, yeah. Should they be, yeah. The SEC is by far the best conference in college football. Results on the field prove that.

I missed where Robinson stated that us being in the ACC was one of the reasons that he decommitted. Got the link?

Yeah, it is on TigerIllustrated. I pay to read it, not sure if you have a membership, but it is on there. I will post the link, but doubt it will show up without signing in.

and hire someone that can win some football games against the SEC and other winning programs.
Clemson will never leave the ACC the powers-that-be are
happy here.
Dab is a re-run of bowden and hatfield.

Calvin Johnson was in the ACC and made it to the NFL and is doing pretty well for himself.

The thing is this wasn't the case 8 or so years ago. SEC teams were not as dominant as they are now. ESPN has spent the last 8 years promoting it so feverishly that the recruiting has boomed for almost every school in the conference. In the years before the ESPN contract most SEC schools had 2 or 3 losses. The current SEC dominance is 100% due to ESPN's business model that has been in the works for years now.

really hate after all the work our staff did

Dec 12, 2012, 6:59 PM

with this young man....that he chooses now to de-commit...there is a lot of work that goes into mid year enrollee's....

but I am also strong believer in....the players we want at Clemson...are athletes that WANT to be at Clemson....

if it does not feel right to him...so be it.....let's not judge it.....let's move on ...and find the next wide receiver great !

What bothers everyone is that the reason it

Dec 12, 2012, 7:01 PM

"doesn't feel right" is that we aren't competing at the highest level and aren't likely to do so as long as we are part of the ACC.

I guess obviously if they get enough of these players and being in the SEC they are figuring why not them..also asked him if he was told anything about RN and he said that he wasn't told any specific names...but then he smiled and said he was pretty sure RN was told that as well

The ACC/Clemson will be on the outside looking in!

...meanwhile, OM has never won the SEC West in 21 yrs...

...and that trend will continue...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

As long as we are in the ACC, this will be a problem.

Dec 12, 2012, 9:35 PM

The new bowl payouts for the Sugar, Rose and Orange Bowls will reinforce the image of the ACC being a minor league. The Sugar (Big 12/SEC) and the Rose (PAC and Big) will pay out $80 million. The Orange (ACC and non-ACC opponent) will pay out $55 million.

You couldn't have said it better. It's a flawless business plan executed by ESPN. They have built their product up and are reaping the benefits along with the SEC. Wasn't that long ago they were cramming Ohio State and Southern Cal down our throats.
