Trouble in Cootville...coaches abandoning

Jan 21, 2013, 12:12 AM

South Carolina defensive end coach Brad Lawing is leaving the Gamecocks and taking a job with the Florida Gators, multiple media outlets reported Sunday.

Reports said Lawing was leaving SCAR and in Florida interviewing over the weekend for a position on Will Muschamp’s staff.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Won't effect recruiting

Jan 21, 2013, 12:39 AM

Much for us, but this guy culd "coach em up"

Pretty solid hire for will chump

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

says something if hes leaving Clown behind...internal

Jan 21, 2013, 12:58 AM

and yes itll affect recruiting...either hes a good coach that kids want to play for or hes not...cant have it both ways

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Lawing leaving for PERSONAL reasons?

Jan 21, 2013, 1:16 AM

http://www.independentmail.com/news/2013/jan/20/reports-usc-defensive-line-coach-brad-lawing-leavi/?partner=RSS

"Reports said Lawing was leaving USC for personal reasons unrelated to football ..."

What kind of personal reasons? Tired of coming in 5th in SEC? But that would be football related. Maybe they meant to say PERSONNEL reasons. Maybe Clowney is not meeting classroom requirements (as low as that bar might be).

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Clowney will stay eligible. No way in the world that

Jan 21, 2013, 6:49 AM

OBS lets a little thing like academics keep Bozo off the field. He's George Rogers smart. Criminal indictments are out of his control.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Probably leaving for health reasons that affect everyone

Jan 21, 2013, 6:59 AM [ in reply to Lawing leaving for PERSONAL reasons? ]

that place makes him sick

Re: Lawing leaving for PERSONAL reasons?

Jan 21, 2013, 8:51 AM [ in reply to Lawing leaving for PERSONAL reasons? ]

One of the papers said it was a marital situation (divorce?). Either way, this has got to hurt their recruiting and stability at this critical time two weeks before signing day. Spurrier probably won't have a hard time finding a D-line coach, with the chance to coach Clowney in his final year as the bait. However, I seriously doubt he can come up with another Lawing. That guy obviously knew how to develop linemen. Yeah, don't you know ole Spurrier is seriously PO'ed and fired up about losing a 'lifetime #### coach' to Mushchamp and the Gators, and in their same division?

Nah, tired of beating the Tigers, looking for a new challenge.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Spurrier is getting pretty old and cranky, good move.***

Jan 21, 2013, 6:44 AM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Spurrier must be leaving with Clowney and Lawing setting up

Jan 21, 2013, 8:03 AM

His future to get more than 1 year guarantee. When Spurrier leaves, no guarantee new coach keeps anyone on Spurrier's staff.

Yeah something doesn't pass the smell test here. You don't leave an 11 win team as a coach of a potential Heisman candidate and recruiting coordinator weeks before signing day for a lateral.

Re: Trouble in Cootville...coaches abandoning

Jan 21, 2013, 2:21 PM

He is getting a divorce along with other family problems. He left on good terms, I guess just wanted a change of scenery.

FWIW Lawing is a crappy recruiter anyway. He can sure coach them up though.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Was Lawing involved with a cheerleader or Dreher teacher?

Jan 21, 2013, 3:58 PM

or another dude?

He wasn't the recruiting coordinator.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

UF is NOT a lateral move --- definitely a better job

Jan 21, 2013, 3:59 PM [ in reply to Re: Trouble in Cootville...coaches abandoning ]

DEFINITELY!!!

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

that was the cellphone guy right

Jan 21, 2013, 10:05 AM

got them put on probation a few years ago. Made hundreds of illegal calls. Not the current probation, the one before this one......

SOS must be throwing visor - losing coach to UF.

Jan 21, 2013, 1:58 PM

That has got to really hurt.

Gosh! Why am I not shedding a tear? In fact, it makes me smile.

Secondary violation, call to a prospect during a dead period. Yea, that's hundreds of illegal calls (note sarcasm).

My bad....hard to keep them straight.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Trouble in Cootville...coaches abandoning

Jan 21, 2013, 2:14 PM

That's great news. A move to Florida is considered a lateral move now. Not long ago that would have been considered a move up.

Pretty obvious lawing got the memo that clowney would be laying out this year so he got the hell out of dodge

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

wrong. It is definitely a move up. Why else would he leave

Jan 21, 2013, 3:54 PM [ in reply to Re: Trouble in Cootville...coaches abandoning ]

.... other than the smell.

I see Coots on here making light of it

Jan 21, 2013, 2:23 PM

but Cocky Talk is in full meltdown mode right now.

Myself, i think OBC can hire someone else. The bad news is that Chris Rumph is the early front runner.

Re: I see Coots on here making light of it

Jan 21, 2013, 3:35 PM

I don't think SoCar will hurt too much in the way of recruiting by losing Lawing. He hasn't done anything big recruiting-wise since he landed Cliff Matthews and Travian Robertson which was back in 07 maybe?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

yeah he wasnt much of a coach...thats why he stayed in SEC***

took a head coaching position at LaTech.

That didn't work out too well for their opponents and little sign that this will seriously derail the program.

Time to focus more on fixing the leaky plumbing in Clemson and less on the new appliances at SC.
