No, it's because they "pulled a Gamecock" against a bad Tenn. team.Their fans are very fond of the saying, "pulling a Clemson," which came about under Bowden and virtually eliminated under Dabo. Truth be told, though, the Gamecocks have been "pulling a Gamecock" for over 100 years.
