Way Off Topic - Watermelon - Salt or Not?

Jul 8, 2015, 5:13 PM

Got into this discussion at work today. Seems the southern folks did, yankees, not so much...

I have to have it with salt...

I like it either way. As I have gotten older I have cut out a lot of salt so even when I eat it with salt...it's just a smidge.

That Brings back some memories. My grandparents lived in West Columbia and my grandmother would fix catfish and grits and my grandfather always put ketchup in his grits. I did not inherit that gene! Just give me a good fried egg over grits.

NO SALT & I am not a yankee. Why ruin the taste of a good melon?

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

My parents used salt on watermelon, cantaloupe, & apples.

I'm Southern through and through and never have cared for salt on my watermelon. My only thing with watermelon is it has to be nice and chilled. None of this take home and cut up right away. Gotta be in the fridge overnight.

A little Sea Salt, cracked black pepper, LSD, and chocolate pudding

SUGAR!!! Much better than salt!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Salt is needed on some things, not on fruit for me.

Jul 9, 2015, 8:33 AM

I remember my dad putting so much salt on fresh sliced tomatoes, it looked like it had snowed on them. And he liked salt on watermelon and pepper on cantaloupe.
