Seriously - I read that Brave and Chief are also offensive terms. Will try to provide a link.

No one says Redskins and means anything by it other than an NFL team. When you call someone a "redskin" you refer to people like Joe Gibbs, John Riggins, Art Monk, Robert Griffen, Sean Taylor, etc...

Then comes the teams with animal names because they are offensive to other living things. So says PETA, another radical organization hell-bent on using their skewed paradigm to control the lives of others...
Rant over...

opposition to Redskins but I could see how that could offend some.
But mainly, with the SEC getting involved and trying to prevent the name from being utterd on the airwaves, I think it is time to capitulate just so they will drop it.
If they outlaw the name from being broadcast, that will affect a large amount of historical programming against other teams.
I also think that the change would actually be profitable for Washington and the league in the long-run.
Frankly, the Redskins really isn't a name that fits the nations capital anyways. Certainly they could find another mascot that would be more represntative of the nation.

Is to remove all Native imagery. The Redskins are the big dog. If they go down, the others will follow.
This group is led by a man who claims he represents the Oneida Nation. He does not. He also has ties to NBC, and them and PFT (pro football talk, which is owned by NBC) have been all over this "issue". So has the Washington Post. One guy there, Mike Wise, will not #### about this and has really just gone off the deep-end.
Their one argument I can get behind is "we're people, not mascots". In that case, and if the majority of Natives feel the same, then fine, remove it all. Everything must go. Not just Redskins, but Braves, Blackhawks, Seminoles, Indians, etc...
Otherwise, keep the name and stop beating this dead horse.

It's getting out of hand. Some of the schools around the Houston area where I live had to change their mascot names, one of which was Warriors. WARRIORS?!?! How the hell is that offensive???

Get rid of it

I live up here in DC. I don't have strong feelings about the issue but it seems like changing their name to the Washington Braves would be an easy fix (keep a lot of the same logos). It's definitely affected their merchandise and advertising sales. Probably doesn't help that everyone up here that is passionate about the name comes off like an absolute idiot.

I live up here too. It really hasn't affected marketing and sales that much. They are still the 9th most profitable sports franchise in the world. They're sales in gear have declined, but that is b/c there was a huge surge with RG3. Then they stunk last year, 3-13, and the RG3 sales cooled off. That number the media reported a few weeks ago was very misleading (saying sales down b/c of the name - that is not true at all).

If they change it, I hope they change it to a name that makes fun of politicians and other overly sensitive pansies.
