via Wikipedia ...Cutcliffe was fired by Ole Miss's Athletic Director Pete Boone in December 2004 after his only losing season at Ole Miss. Boone had asked Cutcliffe to fire some assistant coaches and provide a detailed plan for improving the program, specifically the defense and recruiting. Cutcliffe refused to fire any staff members, and was subsequently fired along with his assistants.[3]

I remember when this happened and thinking how stupid the Ole Miss administration was. Cutcliffe has always been a class coach and brought them far more success than they were used to. A crappy way to treat a man who had success and refused to lay blame on his assistants. I hope Duke wins every other game this year besides the next one.

during the Wake game, about why he might have turned down Tennessee's head coach position. I could only figure that his decision went like this...

Choice A: Mega-high pressure, high-profile high-stakes coaching position that would probably chew him up and spit him out in 5 years, earn him the eventual hatred of thousands of fans with artificially raised expectations, and probably be the last major head coach position he'd ever take.

Choice B: Zero-pressure, no-stakes coaching position where the administration is thrilled with a winning season and will let him stay as long as he wants as long as he's winning 6 games a season, he can develop players the way he wants to, he gets almost no negative press and is mentioned only when his team is doing better than average.

I'm not sure I wouldn't have turned down UT too, especially depending on how much Duke is paying him. And especially considering all the millions of dollars of program upgrades Duke has recently committed itself to.
