Just got pulled over in Texas for

Jan 10, 2016, 5:27 AM

Going 6 miles over the speed limit. Got a warning but the cop said between Dallas and El Paso is a drug highway so they sometimes pull people over going under the speed limit too just to check them out.

the Texas state police aren't as lenient

With speeding as in other states. A couple of years ago I was on I-20 heading East between Sweetwater and Abilene. I went over a slight hill and was on the downslope where the Poe-Poe got me. I didn't know why he pulled me over but he pulled me over for going 3 over the speed limit. I kindly asked him what the acceptable speed is and he stated the speed limit. He let me off with a warning and I'm not sure if it's because I was wearing my Army uniform and driving a government vehicle or if he just wanted to find someone else to pull over. I realize that he was pulling everyone over so that he could eventually find someone with a warrant, drugs, or other issues. After that incident I started using the WaZe app.

record for tickets during the '70's but since I got a disabled veteran's tag on my car the most I have gotten are warnings. Even had cops turn around to get me and then back off w/o pulling me over after seeing the tag.

Retired 30 year Cop here,

Stopping a vehicle for 6 over on an Interstate in the absence of
no other suspicious activity is referred to as "chicken $&i!"
The rule of thumb is give 9-10 over then stop them.
Glad you just got a warning. Drive safe!

When I lived in Georgia, you got 7 mph. I got a ticket for a 62 in a 55 once and had to attend "defensive driving" class as I was under 18 at the time. I've since only gotten 1 ticket, and it was for 58 in a 55 while driving through the great state of Tennessee.

Like the OP said, they do this on all the major drug corridors. Down here, it's I-10. You see major drug busts down here off simple traffic stops.
