Venables Deserves a Bigger Raise

Feb 6, 2020, 12:01 PM

I understand Venables contract was extended by 1 year this year giving him the largest total mult-year contract within college football defensive coordinators but there is no reason I can see that his yearly pay should be behind Kevin Steele or Bo Pelini. IMHO he deserves a substantial per year contract raise based on his performance this past year. It was a fantastic job of coaching to completely revamp the defense to match the available players.

Unfortunately the ACC doesn't have

SEC money. Clemson makes less revenue than almost every SEC school.

Need salary caps on coaches at some point

Did you up your IPTAY contribution to support the raise? There is no difference being the top salary or being a top three paid coordinator.

I honestly doubt he is motivated by money at this point.

If he'd wanted a raise, he would've gotten one.

Other programs overpaying based on their return of investment does not mean we need to throw around raises every year just for the sake of keeping our guys #1 for yearly salary.

Let everybody else make bad decisions while we continue to increase coaching salaries on a schedule.

I believe this is the second or third contract he has been at the same yearly number. That is one reason I think he needs a raise to that yearly number. Clemson certainly has the resources even without that SEC money.

I probably would've given Streeter another $10k.
