Unsung hero at the Natty!!

Jan 21, 2017, 12:16 PM

Does anyone know who was ultimately responsible for the strategy in our kicking game. The 2 games against Alabama were very similar and I truly believe the decision to pooch kick and rugby kick and limit big returns played a huge part in the win. There was a conscious decision to not let them get a cheap, quick score in the kicking game and it worked to perfection. That's the kind of coaching that makes a difference.

It was a great strategy and showed the confidence we had that our D could stop their O on a shorter field. If there O could move then ball consistently we likely would have abandoned the strategy but they didn't and we won!!!

I thought it was hilarious they referred to Teasdall as a rugby style kicker

after only employing that method in the Oh St game (VT too?).

I think we will see more teams using that against Bama. More often than not, they get a big return in a close game that changes the momentum. With 5 star guys on the field all the time, the percentages just play in their favor.

I don't know who thought of it but Teasdall should have been kicking that way all year. He got tremendous rolls on those kicks and I bet he may have averaged over 40 yds per punt during the game

Bo excuse for the National Champs to have to rely on pooch kicks. Recruit a punter.
It was all we could do.
