Unavenged losses

Sep 9, 2019, 10:25 AM

These are our remaining unavenged losses. 16 out of 103 opponents. Hopefully, we will get a shot at Georgia in the CFP. Anyone else on this list with a chance?

Georgia 21-45 (2014)
West Va 33-70 (2012) Orange
S. Florida 26-31 (2010) Meineke
TCU 10-14 (2009)
Nebraska 21-26 (2009) Gator
Texas Tech 15-55 (2002) Tangerine
Miss St 7-17 (1999) Peach
Marshall 10-13 (1999)
California 13-37 (1992) Citrus
Minnesota 13-20 (1985) Independence
Baylor 18-24 (1979) Peach
USC (the real one) 0-30 (1966)
Florida 17-21 (1961)
Vandy 20-22 (1960)
Army 6-21 (1937)
Ole Miss 0-13 (1933)

I don't know why, but to me, that South Florida loss is

Sep 9, 2019, 10:44 AM

the most embarrassing of all on the list. We clearly had the better team, in my mind, and just slogged that game away.

That 2010 defense was actually one of the better defenses we've had. They finished #13 despite an #86 finish from the offense. I can only imagine how good they would've been if they'd had some help from the other side of the ball.

Of all the teams on the list, Marshall is probably the team

Sep 9, 2019, 10:46 AM

that would be easiest to schedule in the near future. They are always willing to accept a challenge.

Darn. The state of Mississippi owns us! :)

I say get a home-and-home on the schedule with Southern Cal!

Based on where Clemson is now compared to all of those

Sep 9, 2019, 10:56 AM

teams, UGA is the only team we could likely see in the near future and that would be in the CFP.

The WVa loss was painful but it was the catalyst that brought Venables to Clemson. The South Florida loss was the arrival at the door of greatness, but not yet crossing through as Dabo put it. It was that next season that began the progression to where Clemson football is today.

Yes, it would be nice to pay them all back, but winning championships is so much more fun!

I went to four of these games - TCU, Mississippi State, Marshall and Cal. That Citrus Bowl against Cal was one of my lowest points as a fan at a game I attended. Would love another shot at them.

Maybe after we win the national championship this year, we can petition the conference and the NCAA to scrap our 2020 schedule and replace it with these teams. I am confident we could check them all off, and it would be solid in terms of schedule strength. I feel good about our chances against all of them. A revenge tour would be fun.

If people were as good as their obituary - and products were as good as advertised - this would truly be a wonderful world !!

OK, I have to come clean, Hopeful

I was in New Orleans the last time we played Bama there, too. But that loss has been avenged, and I doubt that I will be able to make it for the 2020 game, should it happen.

The one that infuriates me most is the California game. I knew right then that we were no longer a dominate team and it would take some time to get back to that. I said on that day that a Danny Ford team would never have been manhandled like that. I still get made at the coaching staff allowing our team to become soft.

Strange that we haven't played Florida in almost 60 years

Don't they have some (official or unofficial) policy

Sep 9, 2019, 12:23 PM

that prevents them from playing OOC Power 5 opponents outside the state of Florida? Surely I am not making that up. I could swear I heard that somewhere recently. Maybe it was a policy that was recently abandoned?
