I like OL's answer. It's a tradition that started in the Bryant era - a plastic pipe with "WIN" written on it above the locker room door that players touch on their way to the field. You can see it at the 3 minute mark in this video.

As you can see from their entrance in the 2018 National Championship game, apparently they take a miniature version with them on the road.

It's a natural place for them to put the glue that they sniff. I mean couldn't you see how dazed they were out on the field, they were passing the loaded PVC!!!:) :)
