BCS had a two team limit per conference, so should the playoff

Which should also include the old BCS Bowls.
Meaning, any conference with two teams in the playoff should lose their right to their top Bowl allegiance.
Fair is fair, and this would cut the bias for at least the post season. Takes away some of the extra $ for the pimps, IMO.

I would be okay with expanding it to 3 teams, but I agree. The money figures involved in the playoff are much smaller than that of the BCS. Only a small percentage will be given to playoff teams/conferences. Instead most of the money is split evenly between the power 5.

Did not know how the money was spread out for the playoff.
Let the conference keep the bowl alliance, then.
Still only let two teams from any one conference into the playoff.
Stop this four team B$ talk of ESPiN.
No way any conference is that dominate with the parity from scholarship restrictions.

I think the 4 best teams should go....period.
I think the other 4 power 5 conferences do need to consider re-aligning themselves at least in football.
It would be nice to dump the tobacco road football schools and pick up big 10 schools like ohio state, michigan, michigan state and penn state. the big 10 has dead weight too.
this will never happen though. Right now the SEC is king, and it would be nice to join them as they are in a more natural geographic place than the big 10 or big 12 would be.
perhaps the other conferences being excluded would make this happen, but in a money driven sport, no one wants to give up what they have. If it hits them in the wallet maybe they will listen.

The problem with saying "the best 4 teams should go" is that the money and power involved in this is too much for people to actually get the 4 best teams. It is a popularity contest and with any popularity contest you have to have constraints.
I have no problem with a 2 team limit. I would say that for any conference. Go back an look at the ratings when LSU played Alabama. The ratings for that game were the lowest in the history of the game. People need to be smart about this. The game is healthier when it is diverse. I don't have a problem with a 2 team limit.

i can agree with this. in my opinion it will also give the other conferences a chance to step up and claim a piece on the field and not via vote.

I don't agree. The best teams should go to the playoff. The problem with the current system is that there is no real way to judge who the best teams really are. Preseason rankings are a joke, but that's where it starts. Teams play the same teams every year and there isn't enough OOC play. It's easy to see who the front runners are in each conference, but during the regular season there should be more big OOC games - like Clemson v UGA + 2 or 3 more. Stop scheduling pansy games and play the big boys. That's the only way we'll ever know who the better teams really are.

this seems very reasonable.
i have been wanting this forever. I also think win or lose the voters need to watch the games and decide how well a team shows up win or lose.
the SEC always gets the best ranking which makes their quality wins look better. if the voters punished teams for playing pansies that would even it out some.
limiting it to 1 team per conference would virtually wipe out the poll bias as a relevant factor also.
I just want to see the best games. not trying top bash the non power 5 schools, or even weaker power 5 schools, but competition is what sharpens teams. I say make the records count less and make the eye test per game the deciding factor.
for example as much as i hate notre dame, they took fsu to the wire. that loss should hurt less than someone losing to minnesota, or wake forest.

I agree - limiting it by conference would wipe out some bias. But then I think we'd have to have at least an 8 team playoff. Maybe even 16.
Look at Marshall. They're undefeated right now, sitting at #23. Why? Because they haven't played any good teams? How do we really know that? So pit them against a so-called good team and let's see. Baylor proved my point loud and clear this past Saturday. They had no business being ranked at #4. But I digress. Take the top conference leaders and pit them against each other in a playoff. That's the real way to a true championship.
Of course, the problem is that thanks to espn and the sec, CFB is so wrapped up in money that it's seems impossible to fix.

Yep - let the top teams in each conference battle it out. I'd be curious to see how Marshall held up against a bama or an FSU. You never know. In fact ... we'll never know. But we should.

But the point is they didn't say division champs couldn't get into the playoffs in order to make room for the wildcards. I'm fine with adding them, but if some conference champs don't get a shot then no non-conference champ should.

I have always believed this would cut the media bias and force those who get the bias pass to schedule a true OOC for.
The only thing missing at that point is another round in the playoff for non power five undefeateds/a second power five who only lost to the champ within their division, causing them to miss their conference championship game.

The only exception is if ND goes undefeated and two or three of the conference champs have more than one loss. SOS is a big factor and ND's foes during the regular season must be successful. The SOS will be determined by the PO committee with no influence from anyone's poll other than their own.

The playoff committee will seed teams for all 8 bowl games.
Oct 20, 2014, 6:46 PM

The top four in the committee's poll will be in the playoff round and the other bowls are filled with teams from predetermined conferences according to contracts which are already signed. Each of the eight bowls has a contract with two conferences. As the first round of the playoff rotates through the 8 bowls the contract conference selection are move to other bowls.
I do not remember how many of the playoff bowls have contracts with the SEC but I'd say they got more than their fair share of spots.
