Cool. Save the RBs and DBs energy and let this kid walk on and return kicks.

Is the rule still around that you have to wait two years to

play football if your scholarship is in another sport?

According to the NCAA regs-- Yes

If he participates in football his scholarship counts against football rather than track.

I presume Dabo can let him walk on/participate in August practice and then decide if his skills deserve a scholarship though.

with his speed I would hope he could run his way on to the football team. :)

He runs like a thoroughbred, much like Secretariat when he won the Tripple Crown. He looked like a thoroughbred running with a bunch of nags. That's the way Elijah runs in these races. It seems almost effortless for him.

If he could return kicks and play on return teams that......

Jul 6, 2011, 4:56 PM

would be nice. His tackling ability is a little off because of his tendency to try to tackle them around the shoulder pad area. If he makes the team and tries that in college somebody is going to lay the hit stick on him. Maybe he could be something like a Trendon Holliday from LSU for us as far as returning kicks goes.

you can't coach speed. (You either have it or you don't)

I think he should get the chance to walk on and our coaching staff should try him out as a kick returner and see if his speed can be used to help somewhere else as well.

6'-2" 170 lbs and runs a 4.3 40.

(and played defense primarily in High School)

I would let him take some reps at Safety (as well as kick returner) with that height/speed.

Who knows what could happen after 4-5 years of coaching and working out...
