Topics here getting repetitive - let's talk beer

Oct 4, 2019, 1:09 PM

being west coast IPA fan, Ballast Point Sculpin and Stone IPA (or Arrogant #######) are my favs of the widely available. (there are many niche beers that I like, too). The regional stuff in the southeast is really good, and I like to sample when I get the opportunity to go back. The article in the Clemson World magazine about local grad brewers was awesome. Any "can't miss this" suggestions in the area for when I am in town for the Wofford game ?

The IPA market is way over saturated.

I am disappointed that no one really makes a great Oktoberfest.

To compete with Sam Adams? Using vats the size of Rhode Island?

I've been drinking lots of Sam Adams, but with the explosion of craft breweries it bugs me there isn't something better.

Suggest you try the outstanding Weltenburger Kloster. They've been making Marzenbier in Bavaria since 1050. If you can't find it, you can always pick up some Hofbrau. Prost!!

At 33 I think I'm in your target audience.

I have no information on which to base my thought process except for my own taste, which may have changed, but I think the saturation of the market with "craft" beers has caused the large companies to focus more on making a more diverse selection to attract customers.

I think this move away from what made them good, along with the fact that I think they are using lower quality ingredients to cut costs in a more competitive market, has caused the product to suffer.

I have recently tasted several of the beers you mentioned that I used to enjoy and they don't seem to have the same flavor.

Maybe the fact that I have tasted some of the smaller brewery beers that are generally made with a much strong flavor of some sort has changed my taste for beer, but I am in the minority of young people in that I don't really like the majority of those beers I taste.

Nothing wrong with bud heavy; lowcountry boil, oyster roast or out in the boat this would be in my top few.

Wouldn’t turn down a high life.

Tailgating always go to coors light when it’s hot.

I like craft beers but not all the ipas; let the hipster, sissy boy, ballon haters have those.

Westbrook White Thai likely my favorite craft.

I’m 33 and from here

Drinking a Newcastle as we speak

I'm an old man so I'm out of your target group, but I've had most of the beers you mention and many you didn't. Several years ago I switched to Yuengling. They advertise themselves as the oldest American brewery. The heavy beer is very good, but I've settled on the light which has a good flavor for a light beer. I do sample many craft beers when I with my son or sons-in-law, but no favourites.

It was good when I was 16 and I'm 59 now.

Two Hearted from Bells. Also like New Castle and Hazy Little Thing from Sierra. Agree on the IPAs with a lot of y'all. Just not my thing! Two hearted is an American Pale Ale, and the HLT is nice and not near as hoppy as a regular IPA.

I am a big fan of porters, stouts and Scotch ales. I usually go for the locals. Check out Bourbon barrel Scotch ales and stouts! Be careful though, the Imperial stouts and most Scotch ales are 10% or more alcohol.

Here in Hickory we have several breweries that have good examples of both styles.

The trade from Houston to Arizona set him back a little though. I'm sure 2020 will be a breakout year for him though.
