Top Five Games You Attended

Jul 10, 2016, 6:30 PM

These are my top five games that I was at

1. National Championship Game where we beat Nebraska, got rickets for myself and several other friends in the Nebraska Student Section. It was a great win and a great time, the Nebraska Students were great to be around.
2. Notre Dame Game in 2015. It was pouring rain all day, stadium was packed. Sat next to ND fans, good people, great game.
3. Gator Bowl, beat Ohio State, what made it so great, was not only we got the win, but it upset Woody Hays so much, it hit A Clemosn, and it was his last game.
4. 1980, the first time we wore orange pants and beat usc 27-6. Never forget the pans
5. 1977, the catch to beat usc in Columbia.

Those are the top five I attended, what are yours?

I was at four of those five myself, I'll have to add the last second victory over LSWHO as well as the ACC Championship game against UNCheat.

Here's mine.

Jul 10, 2016, 6:45 PM

Fsu 06. Davis streaking down the sideline late in the game. First win there in 15-20 yrs.
Miami 05. The loudest sustained noise I've ever heard in the Valley.
GT 06. Gameday, great tailgating and ground game domination.
FSU 11. huge momentem swings all day.
USuCk 88 or 89? 45-0 was pretty sweet.

Lots of great games I've missed b/c of work or obligations. I'm sure this is a poor list to some.

gotta put that 2005 OT Canes game at the Valley as one of my Top 5 attended....just a crazy, loud atmosphere and game. Nuts that its been almost 11 years since that....

Had to thumbs up that one. To this day, I still say that was the loudest for the longest. May not have set the decibel record, but the noise level was maintained for longer than any period I recall. The loudest I recall was in 2000 when Rod Gardner caught Woody's pass to set up the winning FG. Other games of note, to me, are ND in 2015 (when rain only fell on their half of the field), 2009 vs FSU when DeAndre took out Ponder, and to complete my top 5, in Charlotte, beating VT, again, to win the ACC in 2011.

1976 vs FSU in Tally

2012 Chick Fil A bowl was a very special game

Jul 10, 2016, 6:52 PM

There weren't too many of us Clemson fans there. Maybe 30k. The stadium was about 2/3 full, but you couldn't tell based on how loud we cheered when that field goal went through. That was the first game that I knew we were destined for big things under Dabo.

The 2013 UGA game was electric. Loud and fun. First game that I brought my [now] wife to and she has been a Clemson fan ever since.

Notre Dame game. I will never forget how wet that game was.

2006 show of "Thunder and Lightning" when we won our first Gameday hosted game against GT in the all purple unis.

2009 FSU "We will rock you" game where we clinched the Atlantic division

1.2003 FSU- first time we had beaten them since they joined the conference. 2. 2002 coot game- My first Clemson / South Carolina game attended. 3.2005 Miami-even though we lost it was by far the loudest football game that I have ever attended. I was sitting on the sideline of the endzone where Charlie over threw a wide open Chansi Stuckey toward the corner. 4.2011 ACC Championship... no explanation needed! 5. Tie.... 2012, 2014, 2015 NC State games..... My wife graduated from State and anytime we beat them it keeps her dad, sister and nephew silent!! At least my wife is a good sport!

Re: Top Five Games You Attended

Jul 10, 2016, 7:24 PM

1. 2003 FSU. We had no chance in that game...until we beat the pants off the Noles. This is when Tommy Bowden's Tigers really took off! For the next few months, at least.

2. 2015 FSU, because of what was at stake.

3. 1997 USC. They got out to a 14-3 lead on us at home, and that place was rocking. And then the 2nd half happened, and, as they say, that escalated quickly.

4. 1987 UGA. Treadwell beats the Pups. Again.

http://www.tigernet.com/update/player/TBT-1987-Georgia-Clemson-16868

5. 1989 FSU, beating them at their place.

Could've also listed that '06 game at FSU and the '06 game versus GT. But we stopped winning football games after that point, so, yuck. And the ACCCG this year was very special because I got to watch it with my daughter in some pretty nice seats.

I was a student from 1993-1996 (so 93, 94, and 95 football seasons). I'm trying to think of one single game I could include during that time. It's hard. Maybe that miracle win over Kentucky in the Peach Bowl. For those of you who don't know that game, I'm quite sure Clemson's never won a game in which they were in a more hopeless situation. They intercept the ball with under a minute left, with the lead. All they have to do is fall down and take a knee on offense.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_M65XwymfNc

Go to about the 1:10 mark. How Kentucky lost that game is beyond me. Today's students have it better than I had it.

5. 2011 FSU - felt like something had officially changed.
4. 2004 Peach Bowl - loved seeing Clemson beat Tennessee.
3. 2011 Peach Bowl - Tajh Boyd and company in that last 1.5 minutes were outstanding. And Chandler with the field goal as time runs out. Recently at a Tajh Boyd autograph session, my Mom told Tajh that it was her favorite bowl game. He said it was his too. LSU fans sitting near us cried after the game.
2. 2014 Orange Bowl - Need I say more? I still laugh about how shocked the Ohio State fans were that little ole Clemson could beat them.
1. 2016 NCG - It was a loss....but I left there so proud of my team. The season they had....those boys will forever be one of my all-time favorite Clemson teams.

Well I think for me the top five games in order would be...
1. Notre Dame (2015)
2. Florida State (2015)
3. Auburn (2011)
4. Virginia Tech ACC Championship game (2011)
5. Georgia Tech (2013) that Thursday night game... mostly cause of the party afterwards.

But for me that rain filled and soaked night in the Valley was the absolute best. Watching all the trash talking, disrespectful Irish fans leave with the look that most visiting fans leave the Valley with. The look of defeat!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

15 ND 15 FSU 15 OU 14 SC 14 UL

Jul 11, 2016, 8:08 AM

Championship game was an overall great experience but a loss, so...not top 5.
James Davis' final game, and Swinney's first win over SC was great.
Swinney's first win at BC was fun.
63-17 was fun but sort of empty, like the stadium.
Last year's NCSU game was exciting. We sat in the middle of the home side and had to listen to their fans whine.
Attended some losses that were great games other than the score: 14 UGA, TCU, 88 FSU (missed Sanders' TD thank goodness). Lowest profile game that was the most fun: Champs Sports vs. Colorado. Most hyped game that was the least fun: VA Tech Thursday night. Great hype, fun tailgating, great start to game; downhill from there.

2. 2013 vs Georgia

#1 - 2012 Peach Bowl vs LSU

Jul 11, 2016, 12:12 PM

Such an improbable finish. Our guys faced tremendous adversity from the start and never gave in. Never been more proud to be a Tiger

#2 - 2013 Orange Bowl vs Ohio State

Seems like nobody expected us to win this one...felt good to see Tajh and Sammy go out with a bang while sending Urban and the hurtin buckaroos home crying

#3 - 2013 vs UGA

As a Georgia native and freshly graduated, I had this game circled for a long time. Felt good to hold bragging rights over all my UGA buddies, who expected Aaron Murray and Gurley to roll over a measley "A-she-she" team.

#4 - 2015 vs Notre Dame

No explanation necessary, the rain made it even more memorable

#5 - 2015 Orange Bowl

I was never really nervous for this game....felt great to send Baker Mayfield home in a body bag

Honorable mention:

Re: Top Five Games You Attended

Jul 11, 2016, 12:34 PM

I'm a senior at Clemson, and an out of state student, so I didn't get hooked until more recently.

1. Notre Dame 2015 - Just an unreal experience. I wouldn't have wanted it any other way, but I would be totally ok with not having any more rain games for the next 6-7 years...

2. Georgia 2013 - First "big time" game for me as a student. 2012 was fun, but campus was just buzzing all week long leading up to that and I remember being absolutely crammed into the student section to watch us beat up on the Dawgs. That was also great because quite a few family members of mine are Georgia fans, and the year's worth of bragging rights was real nice.

3. Wake Forest 2011 - I don't remember much from this game except that Catman hit the game winning field goal to clinch our spot in the ACC Title game. This was also my first game at Clemson. We were in town checking out the school and I was a high school senior that didn't put much thought into attending Clemson, I was just visiting to visit family, mainly. But we got free tickets, and by half time I was hooked and Clemson made my decision for me that day. I experienced that "something in those hills" moment that we all had at once point or another.

4. South Carolina 2014 - 0-2 as a student against South Carolina and they'd just won 5 in a row. This game just felt like a 500 lb gorilla climbed off my back. It was good to be on top.

5. ACC Championship 2015 against UNC - My last game with a bunch of my friends. I'm staying for a half victory lap and get one final football season, while they all graduated. The ACC Championship was my #1 goal going in to 2015 and being 13-0 and heading for the playoff was just an added bonus. Great atmosphere, and it was so cool seeing almost all orange throughout the stadium.

I didn't get to attend the playoff game or national title game last season, but I've made plans to make it happen this season if we get that far. I wouldn't miss it considering it's my graduation year.

2. 1967 Alabama game, a loss 13-10! Howard versus "The Bear."
3. 2015 Notre Dame - Wet!! But wonderful!
4. Miami, 2005 the loudest game in DV history.
5. 2014 Clemson vs. UNC, Watson's epic start, what a day!

Honorable mention:

1974 UNC game when the Tigers rolled over the Tarholes, 54 -32!

The Charlie Whitehurst victory over USuck and Spurrier at WB. Cannot recall the year, but loved the outcome!

Go Tigers!

1. 2015 Orange Bowl vs Oklahoma - 1st ever playoff appearance, absolutely dominating the second half and shutting out OU and just remember partying in the stands will all the other Clemson fans after the game knowing we were headed to the Championship.

2. 2011 ACC Champ vs VT - 1st ACC Championship in 20 years, VT was ranked #3 and few if any gave us a shot, always great to beat VT who at the time had been the class of the conference for half a decade.

3. 2015 Notre Dame - "Hurricane" conditions created a once in a life time atmosphere with torrential downpours and gusty wind. Still remember the video board in the second half saying " heavy rain approaching"! Boulwares stop on 4 down to seal the game.

4. 2011 FSU - Huge swings throughout the game, from the beauty of Sammy gliding for touchdowns, to the ugly sight of Boyd fumbling to Werner for a score as he tried to throw the ball away. Still can see Rennie Moore twisting Trickett into a pretzel as he sacked him to seal the game. While the 2009 iteration of "We Will Rock You" vs FSU was better, we still gave a deafening rendition to let FSU know that they have to go through Clemson if the want the Atlantic. (Still peeved we didn't get to do it last year during the FSU game, it was becoming a tradition I kept waiting for it but never happened.)

5. 2014 Orange Bowl vs Ohio St - Can't stand Ohio State or their fans, so this one was very special. We were outnumbered in South Florida, something that doesn't happen often, so it made it all the sweeter to see the smug Ohio St fans heading for the exits as those there clad in Orange celebrated our first Orange Bowl victory in 33 years. Also the redemption factor having been at the 2011 OB, it was good to get back and get it done.

Just missed the cut - 2013 UGA, 2015 FSU, 2011 Auburn, 2015 National Championship vs Alabama

My five includes 2 losses..

Jul 12, 2016, 12:27 AM

No order..

- Clemson UVA 2001.. first home game after 9/11. We lost in the last minute, but having something to cheer about with 80k during such a dark time was a spiritual moment that I'll always ge grateful for.

-Clemson Bama 2016.. what do you say? Proud of the team, bummed they were so close and didn't finish.

-Clemson FSU 2015. . When Wayne Train broke through we roared. Loved that moment of that game and sharing it with my daughter. We were loud and it was fun.

-Clemson Tennesee 2004... Saw a run of Panic shows for New Years then stuck around to see Clemson rip the Vols.

#5 Could be ACCCG 2015 for the stakes and competitive aspect... Scar with the Gardner catch in early 2000. CJ Spiller and Ford Senior Day..

A lot of great replies, thanks so much for all the stories. It has been very interesting since my time as a student at Clemson, I came in with Hootie took over. The next coach was Red Parker, the Charlie Pell, then Danny Ford. The stadium has grown since then, but the spirit I came to know as a freshman, is still there today, each time I come back. Win or lose, it is always there.

Tough to pick

Jul 12, 2016, 10:10 PM

I can't remember the exact years on all of them but I'll describe the games for you.

89 FSU in Tally. Revenge for the Puntrooskie.

89 SC in Cootlumbia. 45-0. Terry Allen isn't expected to play and walks out on the field on crutches. Walks in front of the Clemson section, throws them down and sprints over to the sideline. It was electric. I don't think there was a Coot left in the stadium at the end of the game.

at UVA about 92 or 93. We trailed huge in the second half and came back to win the game. Might've been earlier than that now that I think about it.

West Virginia Gator Bowl. The destruction of Major Harris.

SC 88. Fans chanting "RODNEY, RODNEY, RODNEY" in his last home game.

Honorable mention: UNC in Chapel Hill around 03 or 04. Woody gets hurt and Willie Simmons is electric to mount the comeback and win the game.

Second honorable mention: The first Bowden Bowl. I don't think I've ever seen the stadium that crazy.

Why are most of these away games?
