To all naysayers, name a CU team since the '81 champs that

Sep 24, 2012, 8:24 PM

this current squad wouldn't beat by two touchdowns, including last year's team. You can't do it.

And, says here that next year's team can beat this current team by 10 points.

If this program was a stock, I'd buy it.

1982, 1983, 1984, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 2003 and there are more.... you have to play defense to win games.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I wouldn't go that far. There were some great teams in the

mid to late 1980's, but the game has changed so much. Player development and strength training are huge now. Seems natural to assume this guys would light up our old defenses, but you never know.

I'll tell you this. 1981 Clemson on Bill Walsh Football on the Super Nintendo was on STUD team. I'd put them against some of the best video game teams of ALL-TIME and that's a fact.

try 1987 through 1991. thanks for playing.

Our D is soft. get over it. I count on one hand how many hard hits we have had on D. I love our O, but D wins the close ones.

The man's point is that we, as a team, are on the rise. Try not knitpicking and look at the big picture.

You'll just get landblasted.

I don't know about our Offensive squad, but you could line u

Sep 24, 2012, 8:33 PM

p Levon Kirkland, Ed McDaniel, Doug Brewster and John Johnson against the entire FSU offense and they could've done a better job of shedding blocks and tackling than the entire defense did Saturday night.

David Davis & Chester McGlockton also

because of Defense and Offense that controls the ball and pounds you physically. The teams listed above would make the current team cry like babies.

Not saying this is the greatest team since '81, but it's the most exciting I've seen since that time. Of course, it's just my opinion, but when was the last time we had firepower like this? C'mon - if you weren't excited watching this team play Saturday, you're pretty much never satisfied, and need to find another thing to support in your life. These guys have a long way to go, but dayum, can't you tell it's better than it's been in a very long time? If you can't, then we can just disagree.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

"Team" means all facets. I wasn't very excited watching....

Sep 24, 2012, 8:44 PM

our D or our kickoffs. Offense is another story, except when they pressed for 4 series in a row during FSU's run.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

either of the 1988 or 1989 teams.***

I would agree...especially 89...that defense was INCREDIBLE

Sep 24, 2012, 9:59 PM

those four LB's were awesome...they would run circles around this entire defense.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Some of the avg teams with good defense and an OK running

Sep 24, 2012, 8:39 PM

game would be able to keep this offense off the field, run it down this D's throat. So it would be a sharp contrast in style and no telling the outcome.

I also don't agree that this squad would automatically beat last years.

Whitehurst would carve up this defense, and Dantzler would probably run for 400 yards on it. How many would spiller run for?

Defense wins championships.

Sep 24, 2012, 9:06 PM

As Clemson fans you should know that. Your offense won you games last year. But come time for the ACC Champ game, your defense won it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

How old are you, 12?

Sep 24, 2012, 9:07 PM

Any recollection at all of the teams we had in the late 80's?

Clemson used to have one of the best defenses in the nation. Now we have no defense. That's unacceptable.

talent off of that team....I count EIGHT guys from the defense who played in the NFL...I'm sure I'm missing some. If you think this team could essentially beat an NFL defense you're fooling yourself.

Sep 24, 2012, 10:13 PM

Levon Kirkland one of the best Pittsburg Steeler LB's ever. James Lott and Dexter Davis played in the NFL. Chester McGlockton is one of the top 4 defensive linemen ever at Clemson. John Johnson made the NFL for the 49ers. Ed McDaniel played for years for the Vikings.
