Tim Bourret

He basically just said that Bowden got Dabo the job at Clemson by stepping down in the middle of the season. If he hadn't Dabo would never have gotten the chance at the job. Thought that was interesting.

Not sure I agree. When was the last time Clemson

hired a coach that was already a successful HC at the level we want to be successful/at a big-time school? I think you have to go back to the '20s with Josh Cody to find a guy Clemson hired away from a D1 school, other than Ken Hatfield. My point is that I think the formula, for whatever reason, is to hire an up and comer, and DS fit the bill. Plus, wouldn't they have promoted a coordinator if anybody else on staff had a chance to be HC?

Tommy Bowden recommended Dabo to TDP

The story that I heard back in 2008 and over the years was that Bowden specifically asked Terry Don Phillips if he would give Dabo a shot at interim coach. I believe that Dabo has confirmed this as well in an interview.

Kudos to TB for showing graciousness in that moment and allowing a smooth transition to Dabo. He certainly had his limitations as a head coach, but TB helped set us up for today's success.

Contrast that with Spurrier who had nothing to do with selecting his replacement and didn't seem to really even care.

Guess the OBC figured no one else could drive a program into irrelevance any more than he already had!

Wait - what did Tim Bourret say?

And TB? Is that Tim Bourret? Tommy Bowden I'm guessing.. Or Tajh Boyd? Did Tajh say something about Spurrier? Or.. Tim Bourret said something about Tajh, I guess??

So many damm TBs.

Tommy Bowden is the TB I was referring to. Sorry for any confusion.

I don't think he would ever think that , much less say it .

Link ?

Yeah, except the part where Tommy was fired.

Oct 13, 2015, 8:36 PM

Had he 'stepped down,' his pay wouldn't have continued into millions of bucks. He was paid to resign which is what happens to all who work under contract. It's not semantical bullchit.
