Thursday vs GT traffic

On gameday vs GT whats the traffic like also parking wise this will be my first Thursday game.

I do know that school is dismissed at noon so students and employees can get out of town before the influx of traffic into town. Campus parking lots won't be emptied until that time or after.
I doubt there will be a full house - more like 73-75,000, and a late-arriving crowd. Most folks will probably be taking a half-day off from work(?) so the Greenville crowd gets here at 3pm, the Columbia crowd at 4 or 5. I would expect tailgating to be tempered from normal being on a school weeknight. Traffic will probably be peaking around 4:30-5:30pm.

simplest to try & COMPLETELY AVOID I-26 & I-85 rush hour...

traffic heading form or through ATL, GVL, or SPG. otherwise you can tack on some major extra time driving.
lots will be open by 3:00 at least...usually a good time on Thursday night & the crowd gets into it whether big or small.

I live in Georgia and have worked in downtown Atlanta and the metro area. The traffic going out of the city on all expressways is a nightmare. Traffic in downtown starts around 4:00 and can last until 6:00-ish. If you can, get there early so you can snag a parking space close by; otherwise you may be walking a bit. I think you can Google the parking areas around GT so you'll have a good idea of the parking areas.
