Thursday night update...

|
Clemson took care of the most important business, winning 2-1.
Good thing, too, because the Tigers got next to no help. We're still only a half-game ahead of GTech, and still 2 games behind the Wuffies. So it looks like 6th place or a play-in game. But at least we don't have to worry about missing the tourney.
The standings after Thursday's games
1. Miami (20-6), Louisville (20-8) and Virginia (17-11) all won, cementing their can't-miss status for the tournament. FSU (15-9) lost, but they're already in the top mix as well.
No. 5 NC State beat the Heels, moving to 14-12. No. 6 Clemson moves to .500, 14-14 No. 7 GTech beat BC to go to 13-14. No. 8 Wake fall to Louisville, now 13-15. No. 9 Duke Beats Pitt in extra innings to go to 13-15. Wake holds the tiebreaker. No. 10 UNC falls to 12-16 No. 11 BC is right behind at 11-15 (tie) as is Notre Dame No. 13 Pitt and No. 14 VTech are out of the running.
For Friday:
UNC, BC and Notre Dame face must-win games to even make the tourney. Any team that falls 5 games below .500 at this point is dead ... unless they ALL lose. If so, UNC still holds the edge.
If Clemson can win tomorrow, and GTech and Duke lose, then the Tigers clinch a day-one bye. The only team that could catch Clemson at that point would be Wake ... and the Tigers hold the tiebreaker on the Deacs.
Still a lot for almost everyone to play for tomorrow. Hang on and go Tigers!

Rev, your "1. ..." contains an impossibility ...

... Miami and FSU are playing each other, so they can't have both won.

It looks like we need to win both games. Does the ACC still treat rainouts like ties in determining the final standing?

So, for example, if we won today and GTech was rained out, we would move a half-game ahead for the day.

I think missing that play in game is the biggest fish right now. I guess you are talking about hosting and a good showing in the tournament is a must. We are a lock for going to a regional

Playing in the Coastal regional would not be a bad thing either. We could win that one then host a super

Conway is only 45 mins from my house I prolly rather host because we play better at home. But I wouldn't be upset to watch some BB on the coast.

Win today would be huge. Bats are going to really come alive if we have a chance today because ND has big pitching advantage. Lefty starter is 8-1 with a 1.93 era and coming off 3-hit shutout at uncheat. Believe we have to sweep to keep away from play-in game because Duke or GT or both probably sweep. Pitt is now out after losing last night. BC has pitching to win one at GT but very little offense. Playing at Coastal is our most favorable scenario.
