What an awesome event that would have been this year and probably the most watched golf event in history with nothing else on.

It’s a little bit depressing sitting here in the recliner knowing you could be getting ready for moving day at the Masters but instead you’re going to be scrolling through the guide all day trying to find a decent movie you haven’t seen 100 times.

i tend to agree. is there any sport with more social distance between players than golf? probably they were a bit more worried that support staff could face issues. plus, you've got to put golfters up in a hotel somewhere.

Some. Still coming from all over the world in rented jets. Anyway, that was a big reason it was cancelled.

Affect on the local economy factored into the decision to delay a few months and play with fans vs playing it now with no fans. Also the logistics of safely getting golfers and TV people into Augusta while maintaining social distancing was a factor. Local school districts have already scheduled a week long fall break to align with the rescheduled Masters to help make it all happen as much as possible like normal. The Masters can't run successfully as the world's biggest golf tournament without a lot of local people giving up a week of their life each year to make it happen.

I can see that. But they were ready to play the Players Championship without fans but it only took a couple comments on social media about the decision to shame them into calling it off.
