The trick play WR pass set the tone from the outset

Dec 1, 2013, 9:23 AM

that we needed trickery to win. When it failed, we puckered up and played tight... turnovers, penalties, etc.

The one thing we needed to do was establish that we could beat them straight-up, and that single play wiped that out.

As soon as I say that play start to develop, it was a bad decision.

I said the same thing

Dec 1, 2013, 9:26 AM

there was no reason to pull out a trick play, we were driving it down their throats at that point. Score on that drive and the game's tone could have been a lot different.

Dec 1, 2013, 9:29 AM

agreed but sir that is coaching. Plain and simple

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Ya Chad is in his own little world. Gets bored with what

Dec 1, 2013, 9:39 AM [ in reply to I said the same thing ]

works

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I was stunned.

Dec 1, 2013, 9:27 AM

Driving straight down the field and run a trick play!!!???

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I agree that it was too early for that play. It could at

Dec 1, 2013, 9:28 AM

least have been thrown to Bryant or by someone else to Watkins. Needed to go to a receiver that could win a jump ball.

2024 white level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Humphries severly misplayed that

Dec 1, 2013, 9:33 AM

Needed to realize there was a safety in the end zone. He looked shocked that anyone was in deep coverage!

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That play needed to go to receiver that can win a jump ball***

Dec 1, 2013, 9:38 AM

2024 white level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Amen, Lakedude. Said that last night.....I believe Bryant

Dec 1, 2013, 12:14 PM

was lined up on the same side as Adam. For the love of God, send Bryant down there to jump for what the coaches know was going to be a Sammy floater.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Agreed

Dec 1, 2013, 9:29 AM

no need for it

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Totally right, just an awful play to call.

Dec 1, 2013, 9:31 AM

I am not real concerned if Morris leaves at this point.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Hard to believe that play was in the first drive scripted plays.***

Dec 1, 2013, 9:29 AM

If it worked, he looks like a hero. It failed, and it was a huge bust.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

True, but you wait until you get a team "cheating up"

Dec 1, 2013, 9:35 AM

to stop Sammy. Much like they did with that wildcat pass...

Doing it that early says "we can't play straight up with you big boys."

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Dayum. I hate that Hot Rod was unable to run on them. I

Dec 1, 2013, 12:22 PM

even hate the fact that we tied the game at 17. That play works and it's probably a whole different ball game. But what do I know? Ya'll are the expert coaches in here.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg2006_nit_champ.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We're friends. You laugh, I laugh. You cry, I cry. You jump off a bridge, I get in my boat and save your retarded a$$.

I've been defending the coaching in general in this game

Dec 1, 2013, 9:31 AM

Only after this play did they try to play straight up. After the tie, we were in great shape but then turnovers killed us.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

This play set the tone, and it pretty much went to crap...

Dec 1, 2013, 9:31 AM

after that play. Sure we tied them, but that play right there set the tone of what was to come (6 turnovers for those not paying attention). They should have just kept driving the way they were and not worry about the tricks.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Didn't like it

Dec 1, 2013, 9:33 AM

We ran it vs BC and Sammy overthrew Humphries. Idk what happens in practice with it, but it's ineffective in the game, and we were driving. I think if we don't run that play we get at least a FG from that drive

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

At best that trick play should have

Dec 1, 2013, 12:10 PM

came in the 3rd quarter when we had a hefty lead.

Not on the first d*amn drive of the game. playstation call

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I want to agree with you, and I didn't like the call either

Dec 1, 2013, 12:13 PM

but the simple fact is we've lost to them five times in a row now and we've lost about every way there is. Start hot, start slow, lots of turnovers, not as many turnovers, etc. etc. Can we get any hotter and more perfect of a start then C.J.'s kickoff return for a touchdown? Still ended up getting demolished....we have had no answer for that godforsaken Connor Shaw scramble. It is infuriating.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I want to agree with you, and I didn't like the call either

Dec 1, 2013, 12:18 PM

8 QB draws in a row I think...everybody in the country knew it but BV!!!
No excuse for the coaches to not adjust...Shaw should have been hurt on any one of those carries!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Idiot Call for sure!!!

Dec 1, 2013, 12:16 PM

We were kicking their ### and then only to ruin it with a gimmick botched play!!!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Leave it in the playbook until you need it. Not necessary.***

Dec 1, 2013, 12:16 PM

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Totally agree. We on fire until that point

Dec 1, 2013, 12:18 PM

The play was so slow developing you could easily see it was a Watkins designed throw. Once i saw Boyd throw it and Sammy wind up everything became slow mo with me slowly mouthing Nooooooo.

Usually i watch replays of the game but i would only watch this game up to that trick play. because for me that felt like the turning point most critical call of the game.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If the turning point of a game happens 4 minutes in, then we

Dec 1, 2013, 12:20 PM

need to rethink our mental toughness or something. While that play call sucked, it had no bearing on our defense being marched down the field like the 20 play 9 minute death march it was.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: If the turning point of a game happens 4 minutes in, then we

Dec 1, 2013, 12:34 PM

That's a high school play , that don't work against a defence that can read .

No reason to run that , we were moving on the ground

I would not worry about Morris going anywhere , he makes mistakes too.

Re: The trick play WR pass set the tone from the outset

Dec 1, 2013, 12:22 PM

Chad don't have the knack of calling trick plays like Brad Scott could. He did it at Clemson and Carolina. Chad doesn't have near the success overall.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yep, Bush league nonsense there.***

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

incredibly awful call....take your best WR and have him

throw the ball.....awful

Re: The trick play WR pass set the tone from the outset

Dec 1, 2013, 2:31 PM

If it had been a TD everyone would be talking about the brilliant call the coaches made. BUT I was totally surprised that that play was called with us moving the ball at will.

Re: The trick play WR pass set the tone from the outset

Dec 1, 2013, 2:32 PM

Chad and dabo were trying to quite the crowd with a big play. It backfired.
