Is our ACC rival.
They came into the ACC and basically took what was rightfully ours...regular champions. I cannot forgive them for this. They've been in the league only 24 years with 15 titles. We've been in the league 63 years with 16 titles. After their championship in 2014 they had MORE TITLES THAN US!!!!
Hopefully after this season, 64 years in the league we have 17 titles, but FSU really burns me.

If you're from and live in S. Carolina, I can assure you our rival (for bragging rights) is the dirtpeckers. On the football field, I would agree our rival is FSU.

I understand your reasoning. I understand that overall we have a clear upper hand in the rivalry (historically), and I understand that our program has clearly moved ahead over the last few years, and in that sense, they just aren't at our level, and therefore aren't a real rival. I also understand that FSU has become much more important to our ultimate success when it comes to the CFP. I totally get it.
All of that, however, that kind of thinking, shows a total lack of understanding of real rivalries and what they are all about.

Losing to SCAR is worse than losing to FSU ... or anybody

They are the team that you most hate to lose to.
Beating SCAR gives you a warm feeling all off season, but LOSING to them produces a horrible emptiness for the next 12 months.
We simply have to beat SCAR to have a truly successful season.
We can be undefeated otherwise, we can go the the playoffs and win it all ... but if we lose to SCAR the season is forever tainted.
I don't know what else can be said to better define the term "RIVAL" ...

Carolina will always be just because of the interconnectedness of our fanbases with friends and family, but Id say Georgia should be our next biggest rival due to ots proximity, and its a real shame they are no longer a fixture at the top of our yearly schedule!

I think it depends when you were in school. SCar wasn't relevant in my era. When I hear "rising up to the challenge of our rival" in Eye of the Tiger, I tend to picture the Nole and a little blue goat.

Dabo has the right idea. The Carolina game doesn't define a successful season and shouldn't be our main focus. However, those who live here and endured the streak, know the importance of that game.
