"The Song That Shakes the Southland "

Apr 29, 2018, 9:31 AM

The man that coined that phrase passed away yesterday. Mr. Nicholas Peck was the Tiger Band announcer from 1960-1989,and also owned Pecknel Music. That you Mr. Peck for all you did for Clemson.

I remember how exiting it was to hear his voice "and now, the song that shakes the southland, TIGER RAG"

Sad to hear. Another great voice from Clemson gone. Heaven now has two great voices Phillips and Peck.

My Service Dog LOVES Tiger Rag, and only that version.

Our country won't go on forever, if we stay soft as we are now. There won't be any America because some foreign soldiery will invade us and take our women and breed a hardier race.

Had the privilege of meeting him a couple of times. RIP.***

Nick was a good guy

He traveled everywhere with Tiger Band, of course, so he was a constant presence on our bus trips - and this was back in the days when the entire band went to every away game.

He would also show up at band rehearsals sometimes with goodies (from Pecknel) for the percussion section, like new sticks or heads or what-not. He was buddies with Dr. Cook (my personal hero), and it always seemed like they enjoyed hanging out.

As I mentioned, he was a good guy.

Back in the late 80’s, I can remember him showing up on Friday evenings at the tiger band practice fields across from the old Hardee’s, in his Lincoln towncar, and chatting it up with Dr Cook and band members after practice. He was a great guy.

I loved to hear his voice as a child going to Clemson games. I loved to hear his voice when I marched in the Clemson Drum Line from '83-87. Like Jim Phillips' voice, I hope his voice will remain in my mind forever! Both of these voices are as iconic to me at that Clemson Tiger Paw - none can ever be replaced!!! RIP Nick Peck!!!

Nick Peck was certainly a friend to Tiger Band. He had a special saying for some of us band students back in the '70s.
But what about the current announcer guy? I think we're due for a change......
