The SEC should be worried about SMU

Oct 25, 2019, 8:57 AM

If the SEC conference champion ends up with 1 loss it will be hard to leave out an undefeated SMU in favor of a 1 loss conference champion who most of their wins are over teams with losing records.

The SEC should be terrified about Mizzou - they still control their destiny

Sure.

Have you seen SEC refs?

Mizzou lost to Wyoming and Vanderbilt. They should not scare anyone.

Unless the topple UGA/Florida (or the three split the games wonky) everyone would be in a cluster - and then losing to the worst team is better than losing to the top teams (see 2016 4-8 Cuse).

They could be the SEC version of Pitt - a bad team winning enough in conference and losing to a 2-10 team, making it to the SEC champ game. Heck, look back to 2007 (again) and how a 10-4 UT won the East over a #2 ranked UGA at 11-2.

Here is how it would happen. In the last 5 games:

Mizzou goes 4-1 & beats UF, loses to UGA
UGA goes 3-2, beats Mizzou, loses to UF and Auburn
UF goes 4-1 loses to Mizzou, beats everyone else.

Mizzou is 6-2 with the tie breaker over Florida
UF is 6-2 and is behind Mizzou
UGA is out because they played like Georgia,

Now this isn't likely but plausible with Mizzou hosting UF. And keep in mind the SEC East is a lot like the Coastal for nutty under-performance.

UGA can’t score though

I bet they’re worried

Also if Mizzou continues to only lose to bad teams then they could upset UGA and Florida and really turn things upside down.

I can't think of anything better than Mizzou dropping the game to Kentucky this weekend and following it up by beating UGA and Florida near the end of the season.

I got one even better, thrash UK, UGA, UF, and then UT - That locks them into the SEC Championship.

Then they get blown out at Arky in the final SEC game.

The even better part about this is Mizzo can't play in the SEC Champ game, so if they win the east then UGA/Fla get in as a second place team. If they win the SEC how do you put a team who won the conference but finished second in their division in the playoff? I am officially a Mizzo fan!

SMU is a Group of Five team and very unlikely to make the playoffs. Remember undefeated Central Florida two years ago.

They put a team that didn’t win their conference, or even their division, into the CFP two years ago.
Roll Tired. (but not so tired when they get to skip game 13).
