6 team playoff is NOT a workable solution. This is football. An extra game to get your team beat up is too much of a disadvantage. You may as well drop back to 2, it will play out the same.

each division winner plays in conference champ game which is the 1st rd.
the winners advance..the losers don't.
if you didn't win your division you are done.

WVU is very u likely to go undefeated and/or win the B1G. You’re crowning them before they literally play anyone in their conference. Take a look at their schedule. Probably Baylor is the only one left I’d say has no shot. They’ll lose 1-3 games.

I simply left out ND because they dont have a CCG, and slid WVU up because they were the next conference team ranked.
I booted UGA bc theyll lose to bama in SECCG.

divisions and went back to the old school regular season champ style. We could play every ACC team 2x every four years including 3 annual rivals if we didn't need it for the championship game. I don't see any fall off in exchanging the conference game round for a better 8. Got to earn your way the hard way, and most fair way.

8 team playoff
Power 5 conference champs get an automatic bid.
One conference champion from group of 5 gets an auto bid.
2 at large spots remain.
Would look like this year:
Bama
Ohio state
Clemson
Big 12 champ (OU, WV, UT?)
Washington
UCF
Georgia
Notre Dame
