Since we are calling out bad fans, I gotta call one out from last night

We’ve been slamming LSU fans on here recently so I have to mention something I saw last night in Littlejohn.
I sat near a couple and their son who was about 13, Clemson fans. In front of them was a father and two daughters, one about 20 and the other probably like 15, Duke fans.
All game the Clemson fan mother (grown woman in her late 30s) was screaming things like “Ratface” at Coach K, cursing at Vernon Carey when he missed free throws and other general explicit things. Her husband didn’t say much, but her son was clearly learning from her as he was screaming at Duke players and the refs like her.
Anyway after the game, the 15 year old Duke fan girl in front, turned around and said a few sentences to the woman, I couldn’t hear what Was said but she was clearly not happy. The Clemson woman screamed in her face “stay on that bandwagon **”
So now that Duke girl will remember Clemson fans as “classless” and trashy for the rest of her life probably based on that one incident she experience. Something that was completely unneeded after we won. Just not a good look there

I totally agree with you 150%. Our fans should remember what I once heard said : YOU WIN WITH CLASS, YOU LOSE WITH CLASS !!!!!

This includes everyone....coaches, players, alumni, fans, and anyone else.
I am disappointed in fans who act this way. I have seen a few....but they have been few and far in between.

Difficult to do but it would have been proper and wise for you to apologize to our guest for our “fans” behavior.

Why as fans, sitting near a trashy fan do we not say anything to the trash. It would at least let others know we do not support that trash. Had you said something to the trash or at least apologized to the Duke fans for the trash sitting behind them, the 15 yr. Old Duke fan would have left with the impression that not all Clemson fans are trash. If you did not want to say anything to the trash, you could have at least let her hear you apologize for her trashy behavior.(I know, you don't want to start a bad deal with some nut, but done in a nice way, usually works unless you are dealing with a drunk).

In the cases where "that fan" has been near me and fans from other school, I've apologized directly to the visitors in clear view and hearing of the offender. Sometimes they get it, sometimes they don't, but at least the visitors know that they are not alone at being offended. Usually for me this actually occurs walking in or out of the game.
Directly confronting the offender, usually drunk and potentially violent, is something I pass on.

We’ve got them too, no doubt. I would have said something to the bad fan...let her know that behavior is unacceptable. She might have cussed me out but at least I would have spoken my mind.
There have been several that I’ve had to have a talking to in our section in Death Valley. Usually they tone it down when they’re called out.
The bad actors make the rest look bad.

if you value Clemson’s culture. Because culture is the difference. LSU no doubt has more good fans than bad, but they’ve allowed themselves to believe that the crass, vulgar fan is “just having fun.”
I’m not saying you have to create a scene of shame the woman, but even a “hey, c’mon...no need for that.” With a snails on your face is better than nothing. Or apologizing to the girl within earshot of the woman sends an important message on what her fellow Tigers will stand behind and what we won’t.

When we played Va Tech several years back in the ACC championship game, there was a very drunk Va Tech fan sitting behind me. He was so rude to me throughout the game because I was cheering for the Tigers. I never said a curse word or anything bad about their team. By the end of the game, I was close to tears. Needless to say, my husband spoke to him several times. The fan was in other people';s faces, as well. Finally someone got security and he was escorted out. Another Va Tech fan that was sitting close by came up to me after the game and apologized for the guy's behavior, even though he did not know him. I left with a much better feeling about their school.

Impressive for a 15 year old girl to keep her cool and confront an offending adult.
But it should have been her father. Even better, other Clemson fans.
