Got my NC pistol purchase permit

Jul 20, 2012, 9:30 AM

Springfield XD 9 or a Glock 9 (17 or 19, want to feel all three guns for ergonomics again)

What say you lunge?

Is the Springfield as reliable and accurate in your opinion as the Glock?

I had an XD45. Never had any issues with it, other than I could never aim it worth a darn.

Glock is the standard to be measured against. Springfield is a copy. Can't go wrong with either one, IMHO. I'd pick whichever fits your hand better.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I agree with you on the fitting best, the other

Jul 20, 2012, 9:34 AM

thing that turns me on to the XD9 is the backstrap safety

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I have many guns, none of my pistols can touch my XD

I love that pistol. Truest shooting that I have.

Jul 20, 2012, 9:37 AM

and really, it boils down to what feels good TO YOU...

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

clone to a glock? not at all.

Jul 20, 2012, 9:43 AM

other than having a grip, a trigger, and a barrel. :)

For example, XD's have a much higher bore axis, different safety system than glock's safe action along with a 1911 styled grip safety.

Re: Got my NC pistol purchase permit

Jul 20, 2012, 9:39 AM

can't go wrong with any of them. If ergonomics is what you're after, check the S&W M&P out too. If possible, shoot them all before you buy.

Personally for striker fired pistols, I like the M&P due to economics and made in the USA. I shoot the glock as well. Have no experience with XDs. Oh, look at the Ruger SR9 too. That is a sweet 9mm. Also made in the USA.

Some SA's are made out of the country some here - generally

Jul 20, 2012, 4:51 PM [ in reply to Sprinfields are made in Croatia arent they?*** ]

a lot of the components are created elsewhere

final assembly here= made in USA

some have entire usa production

you can tell by the Price too

the XD started as a rebranded HS2000 (IIRC)

Jul 20, 2012, 5:32 PM [ in reply to Sprinfields are made in Croatia arent they?*** ]

Now, I believe Springfield sends them the specs, but still made in the same place. Some of their 1911's are also made out of country.... Brazil, I think.

Thanks everyone!

Use four shells and two 45 rounds.

Jul 20, 2012, 11:52 AM [ in reply to Simi related question ]

Locate the 45 rounds to come up last when the first rounds have him on the ground and you can get close enough to stick the barrel up his butt.

Either is too big for concealed carry IMO.

I shoot a XDm .45 compact and have had a an XD .40

Jul 20, 2012, 4:30 PM

sub-compact. The Sprinfield XD line are great guns. Very reliable and shoot consistent. The .45 i bought recently and it doesn't have the recoil as bad as most thing. The barrel is only 3.8", and the XDm model comes with a staggered magazine meaning it can hold 13 rounds + 1 in the chamber. I recommend giving the .45 a chance. Although your ammo will be cheaper w the .40 or 9mm. Either way Springfield makes an excellent fire arm

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Thanks for your input!

Jul 20, 2012, 4:34 PM

I think the .45 is out because this is for both the lady and myself. I have been debating between the .40 and 9... that's my other big decision

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Thanks for your input!

Jul 20, 2012, 4:43 PM

On that i would say try to shoot both guns before making your purchase, you and your lady. Then pick the one y'all like best! Good luck finding what you're wanting!
