You are welcome..and being uneducated on Bourbons I go with Makers Mark 46 (or is it 64).

Hard to believe nobody suggested Woodford Reserve...

Feb 11, 2020, 10:56 AM

My favorite. Woodford Double Oak is even better (smooth)

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't think Blantons is in your 50$ price range

Feb 11, 2020, 11:00 AM

is it?

From what I recall that is a $100+ bottle.

Blanton isn’t that expensive in NC. Just impossible to find. I think I paid $65 for the last fifth I bought.
Ten year old, single barrel McKeena is right at the top imo.

Very Old Barton’s is another that you rarely hear about that is top shelf. imo

I bought Russell’s this week and it is so so.

EH Taylor should be on every shelf!

Surprised that some red neck didn’t suggest Jim Bean??

I’m not sure this is true but I was told by an employee of an ABC store that Jim Beam was bought by a Chinese distiller recently because they couldn’t get it easily in the orient. A lot of our favorites are finding their way to the Far East. That explains the difficulty we have in locating some bourbons.

Solid list is solid. I've tried Blanton's

Feb 11, 2020, 11:30 AM

Eagle Rare, Basil Hayden, Jefferson Reserve, Buffalo Trace, Maker's, Angels Envy, and Old Forrester 1920.

Of those, I'd put Eagle Rare #1, Basil Hayden #2, Buffalo Trace #3, Jefferson Reserve #4, etc.

But the whole top half of that list is solid.

Try Elijah Craig barrel proof and you will forget about all the stuff you mentioned.

Why wasn’t Woodfords on here?

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

its all a matter of personal taste

Feb 11, 2020, 11:37 AM

Woodfords Reserve is very popular with some. Personally, I think there are several that are considerably better but I have it on my bar but it is rarely consumed. That’s what Mark Packer drinks! I think I’ll send him a fifth of Buffalo just for fun.

Kentucky Owl. Pricey and rare. I haven’t tried it and at $100+ a bottle I probably will not.

Tin Cup is another that is popular with some.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Kentucky Owl is strong but good

Feb 11, 2020, 11:59 AM

I picked up Batch #3 Rye a few months ago. Hard to find and not cheap.

Booker’s not on the list is not acceptable.

Please do try it.

I bought a bottle of Booker's 25th Anniversary special in 2014 for about $100. Booker Noe had passed away in 2004 right after the whiskey hit the barrels. I still haven't opened it and was offered $300 for it in 2017. I saw that one site selling rare or hard to find alcohol had it listed for $999.97. I find it hard to believe anyone would pay that much for a bottle of any alcohol.

That being said, the first one with a $1000.00 can buy my unopened bottle still in the original wooden box.

I have Old Forester 1920 on hand but I like O.F. Bottled in Bond more. I also keep a bottle of Rebel Yell. It got me thru school and I can't turn my back on an old friend (sometimes not a real good friend, though).
