Thank goodness we didn't join the Big XII

Just thought today about all the garbage people were talking at the start of the year about joining that conference...
Well West Virginia showed us what could have happened...super high power offense, suspect defense, east coast team... and 6th in the conference.
Glad we are playing an away game this week I can drive to.

No one on here will agree with you because they all wanted to jump ship, even the people at WCCP wanted to jump ship. I agree, if WVU would have stayed, they would be a top five team, leading the Big East and headed to a BCS game, to get pounded.

Really? We are playing Duke. Can't imagine why we are ranked so low in the BCS. Guess you are happy being stuck in a lame ### conference. I am not. We should have jumped if we had the chance.

Everybody said the ACC would be back this year, that Clemson , FSU, NC State, VT, and possibly even Wake and Duke would all be good teams.
Guess 2 out of 5 is about the best you can hope for right now.

Quick question-
Oct 30, 2012, 1:56 PM
[ in reply to Re: A lame ### conference that will bounce back, if you hadn't ] |

How many "good teams" are in the average conference?
Obviously the SEC has more than 2, and usually you can make the case for another conference or two to have more than 2 good teams.
Having 2 good teams makes a conference about average. Not quite lame ###.

You can't just have the 2 at the top
Oct 30, 2012, 2:12 PM
|

there have to be some "average" teams in there too who are at least in the conversation for being top 25 teams.
In the current BCS Standings,
the SEC has 7 teams The Big 12 has 6 the PAC12 has 5 the B1G has only 1 in Nebraska, but tOSU and PSU are not allowed to be ranked this year The ACC has 2 in Clemson and FSU the Big East has 1 and is garbage Notre Dame, Boise State, & La Tech account for the last 3 spots.
It's pretty clear that the SEC, Big12 and PAC12 have outpaced the other 3 "BCS" conferences and that the ACC probably needs at least 4 teams to be ranked or in the conversation of being ranked in order to be considered to be competitive with those other conferences.
The fact that Duke is currently bowl eligible says a lot about the ACC, as I guarantee you they wouldn't have 6 wins at this point in the SEC, Big12, or PAC12.

Maryland woulda been a good team if
Oct 30, 2012, 4:36 PM
[ in reply to Quick question- ] |
|
their QB's hadn't been injured. They're down to an LB playing QB. They have a top 15 defense and probably the best freshman in america. Edsall is bringing Maryland back, injuries have killed them. Every team in the ACC doesn't have to be great, just 3 or 4. Look at the SEC, they have 1 great team and 3 good ones and the rest is average or horrible,

But it has to say something when one of the bottom-tier SEC teams (Tennessee) dominates a middle-tier (or even top tier according to some) NC State team on a neutral field in a home opener when NC State it's supposed to be NC State's year.
Same thing with Vandy manhandling Wake last year. And countless other examples.

#1) Duke is a bowl team. #2) We'd be in the ACC this year

no matter what.
#3) Yes, I will take paying about a hundred bucks in gas, food and tickets to paint Duke's stadium orange over spending a thousand bucks to sit with 20 other Clemson fans in Ames, IA.

Schedule Big 12 OOC games — Save 50 mil.
Oct 30, 2012, 2:36 PM
[ in reply to Re: Thank goodness we didn't join the Big XII ] |
|
OOC Games 2 SEC game 2 Big 12 Games
instead of Ball St. & Furman — after-all the ACC is a bunch of cupcakes, why add 2 more
Would strengthen the schedule and still have a chance @ ACC Title, even if you lose all 4 OOC games (which shouldn’t happen) & save 50 mil.

are you considering that our strength of schedule will get worse except for S Carolina (which is still in front of us with two wins), teams in front of us will improve in SOS and many will play in a championship game so those teams will have an added week of voters and computers or that we have already lost spots in the polls AFTER we won a CONFERENCE GAME. its pretty simple to me , until the invite to any bowl we are simply on the outside looking in.

Agree. Although I am still holding out hope to join the SEC one day. I want to be in a conference where the big recruits won't bat an eye at joining and ultimately it will make the Tigers a much more solid team.

this is a well thought out statement , we can inform Dabo he does not have to recruit against VT,SCar,GA,ALA,AU,Florida or anyone else with a historically strong program. We recruit against EVERYONE right now moving to the BigXII would change nothing

The best thing that could happen for the ACC

and Clemson is to have Bama, K-State, Oregon and ND all win out and hope that ND gets left out of the BCS NC picture. If (when) ND jumps into the ACC in football, it's going to boost the entire ACC.

the problem is how will the top four or eight or sixteen be determined? most likely the current BCS points system is used with some type of loopholes for independents and possibly a play in for teams with one loss but still champs . but onr thing is sure it will be tilted to the big 5 conferences and ND.

and start thinking "well we could maybe get left out as a 1 loss team also". Maybe they can see that a 1 loss confernece champ with an extra game and win late in the year could also leave them on the "outside looking in" probably all too simple logic though

what did they accomplish before the SEC ? at least now they get to attend a championship game , chant SEC and split HUGE tv revenue all while becoming relevant. we are falling behind at an unprecedented rate and will play catch up for a little while for sure.

I am on record saying I wish we would have jumped to Big 12. It would be much more exciting playing Big 12 teams vs ACC teams. This year we have TWO big games, FSU and SCAR. Only one of those is in our conference. SCAR has 4 big games this year, UGA, FL, LSU and Clemson. I don't know how the Big 12 would have divided the conference ifvwe had joined but its a safe bet that we would have played FSU, WV, either Texas or OU, then SCAR. Now that is an exciting schedule.

Yea, God forbid we have to play more than two teams with a pulse in an entire regular season. I think we should just form a Sandlapper League with Furman, PC, Coastal Carolina, CoC, Newberry, and Tri-County Tech, that way we are assured of getting some wins, and the away games would be really easy for us to get to.
