Tallest college football stadium

Oct 28, 2016, 5:32 PM

I know Death Valley is way up there. Does anybody know what the tallest is. I know Michigan holds the most but it just has more seats all the way around. I would think ours is up there in height. Thoughts? TIA

I was thinking maybe them. It goes pretty far up there.

IAgreed. I don't know if it is the tallest, but when you

are sitting in the corner of that upper deck in the end zone and you're squinting because you seriously think those lights in the distance are Houston, you know you're well above where God intended your feet to be. Of course, it helps that College Station is about the flattest place on Earth.

Ours is too tall, particularly on the North side

Oct 28, 2016, 5:54 PM

the seats in the top corners of the North upper deck are awful! And they're empty for most games.

We'd have been smarter to have built lower all the way around and filled in the horseshoe in the WEZ to begin with.

Re: Ours is too tall, particularly on the North side

Oct 28, 2016, 7:08 PM

Each to their own I agree is a good thing, but if an endzone ticket was all that I could get, I wouldn't be attending. When I use to be able to go, I wanted to see every snap on both sides of the ball, and with a lower endzone ticket, that is all but impossible!!!

Part of the reason Death Valley is louder than stadiums

Oct 28, 2016, 10:27 PM [ in reply to Ours is too tall, particularly on the North side ]

that are bigger is because of the pitch on the upper deck and how the fans are on top of the action. In stadiums that are a big bowl like Michigan's, yeah you're not as high up, but you feel like you're a mile away from the field.

I thought Georgia did a good job on Sanford Stadium.***

Can confirm on that...Had to sit within a few rows of the top at Florida State one year..felt like I was watching the game from Jacksonville

Texas Stadium is the tallest stadium at 213 FT

But in CFB, it's Ohio Stadium at 193 FT

I remember when it was first built they said ours was 176ft tall. That's been a couple of years....lol we had a Iptay letter from just before the north stands where done at My mom and dads house. I'll call, and see if we still have that tomorrow.

Somebody has to have that besides me. My wife knows everything, I'd ask her but she's asleep...lol at least she thinks she does shhhhhhhh...........

Re: Most sideline seats

Oct 29, 2016, 12:00 AM

What college stadium has the most sideline seats, that is , non endzone? I am thinking DV has to be up there.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That was Bill McLellan's argument when the design was made

Oct 30, 2016, 2:18 AM

more "side line" seats. It sounded good in principle.

But those who have watched a game from the top of the North Deck know that once you get to a certain height, it no longer makes a lot of difference.

You can see the entire field from any angle if you're up that high.

Re: That was Bill McLellan's argument when the design was made

Oct 30, 2016, 3:05 AM

I bet you can see the whole field from up there, but the players look grade school kids from up there also!!! I feel lucky to say that I have never been in the upper deck for any reason, yep, my feet have never touched the floor up there. But now I couldn't get up there even if I had a hand full of free tickets....
