Remember, this is college football not a labor union, talent will always trump seniority. Coach Swinney made the decision based on production, not seniority or favoritism. Go Tigers!!!

Dabo brings a new dimension to Tiger FB. I can remember when, if a guy had been there longer, it nearly was impossible to pass him on the depth chart. So glad we are past that.

I agree that ETN should get 75% of the carries bc, once a RB gets warmed up and starts to sweat, they are hard to stop, especially one that runs as hard with power as ETN does!!! But by just playing one RB, it will affect recruiting with bringing in several top RB's IMO!!!

DW4 made a lot of tight passes during his time at Clemson, and it's QB's with that kind of belief and confidence in their arm that can win championships with the rest of the pieces, and I believe by seasons end, we will be primed for another NC RUN!!!

I’m surprised at the decision. I figured Dabo would wait another few games. I guess he learned a lot from the DeShaun situation. That’s a mark of a great coach. If the answer is staring you in the face... don’t fight it.

Buckle up boys. It’s going to be a fun year!

Re: TNET: Swinney announces change at quarterback

Looks like he may be giving KB the choice to stay or transfer with the decision already known instead of playing it close to ensure he stays. Class move. Hope Kelly chooses to stay a team player...he'll still be utilized and needed.

Re: TNET: Swinney announces change at quarterback

Posted: Sep 24, 2018 1:17 PM

Isn't this Kelly's last season? Would he have to sit out a season if he transferred? Wonder where he would go? If he chose USUCK, that would definitely be an upgrade for the coots.

Re: TNET: Swinney announces change at quarterback

He'd be a graduate next year. At that point, you don't have to sit...sit rule only applies to non-graduates.

TL will put up a lot of points. That, combined with our stout defense, will create large leads. Kelly B will play many a 3rd and 4th quarter with a 21-28 point lead. He will probably average 20 snaps per game.

The rest of the regular season has one purpose - get TL ready for championship football!

Okay, maybe two purposes - we still have to win!

Re: TNET: Swinney announces change at quarterback

[4]

If you are a Clemson fan and you sat through the Sugar Bowl you had to know this day was coming. We are at our best when our tall receivers are making plays down the field, our TEs are getting involved a lot, are running backs are chewing up yardage, and Hunter Renfrow is scoring TDs because opposing defenses are too busy chasing everyone else.

The ACC is not guaranteed a spot in the playoff this year. Style points will count whether they claim it does or not. Especially if Notre Dame keeps winning. We are already dealing with SEC bias so we know they will put 2 SEC teams in the playoff. They will definitely put an undefeated Notre Dame in. That leaves 3 conferences vying for a single spot. We have to win big and we have to pass the eye test each week so there is no doubt. Not sure my heart can take sitting through selection Sunday on December 2nd if the aforementioned scenario plays out and resumes between the champs of the ACC, Big 10 and Big 12 being compared.

As it looks the ACC Championship game will be between us and Duke. Not exactly the resume builder we need even after blasting the coots by 40.

Re: TNET: Swinney announces change at quarterback

13-0 Clemson, OSU, and OU would get in over 12-0 ND. Conference title games count to the committee. We don't need to think about 1-loss scenerios right now.

Clemson just needs to do Clemson, and win.

Re: TNET: Swinney announces change at quarterback

Posted: Sep 24, 2018 1:56 PM

No but you do have to worry about that worse case scenario...

If Bama (or UGA instead), OH State, Stanford, and OU all end undefeated with Clemson...Clemson loses out. SOS of all 4 of those teams is stronger than Clemson's. So winning out isn't all...we need some help in some teams losing.

SOS per the S&P FEI Ratings:
https://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/fei

SOS = season SOS; PSOS = SOS against opponents played to date
Clemson SOS: 63, PSOS: 49
Georgia SOS: 53, PSOS: 62
Alabama SOS: 45, PSOS: 72
OH State SOS: 50, PSOS: 48
Oklahoma SOS: 62, PSOS: 70
Stanford SOS:. 17, PSOS: 65

Re: TNET: Swinney announces change at quarterback

I'm pretty sure the Belligerent Fairies will find a way to lose one game. And the fact that they don't play a conference championship game hurts them in the eyes of the Committee. Thank God for the Committee.

Wonder if we will see KB at all the rest of season

[2]
Posted: Sep 24, 2018 11:28 AM

I believe he hasn't redshirted (correct me if I'm wrong). Could transfer for one more year of playing time.

This is the question!

[3]
Posted: Sep 24, 2018 12:49 PM

He played in 2015, 2016 and 2017. He can play 4 games in 2018 (and he already has) and then transfer for 1 year of eligibility. But he is in his 4th year right now. If he takes 1 more snap in any remaining games, he is done with college football at the end of the year.

I have to give the coaches a lot of credit here. They could have waited until after the Syracuse game to make TL QB1. That would have removed all options for KB. Hopefully, KB will stay engaged and work to retake his position. We would be in major trouble if we lost KB right now. We had 3 scholarship QBs leave this past off season. Our depth is already shaky.

AS A KB supporter............he had a fair chance!

Posted: Sep 24, 2018 12:54 PM

All you can ask is for it to be fair! Clearly - TL outplayed KB. My argument before the GT game was; if he didn't play versus Texas A&M do we win(KB)? We will never know that....we don't know that TL couldn't have lead scoring drives! What I do know is he gives us a better chance of winning. 3rd and long now is not so daunting. We have the WR group who can go get it......plus now someone with the arm talent to get it to them in a hurry!

It played out on the field...………...all that needs to be said!

KB will still see some good playing time, I think

[1]
Posted: Sep 24, 2018 11:33 AM

TL is still young and we haven't seen what he will do under pressure. KB has that intangible of experience and also the dual threat as a runner which, while TL is a good runner, KB is better, just like TL has a better deep ball than KB.

Now we'll really see what kind of character KB has in how he accepts this. I feel bad for him, but that's the breaks in bigtime college ball. He's shown a lot of impressive character so far - both of them have.

Teams may know who to prepare for primarily, but they still have two very different QBs to plan for.

Re: KB will still see some good playing time, I think

[3]
Posted: Sep 24, 2018 11:36 AM

Oh, give up on the dual threat runner stuff...a passer like TL backs the defenses off, which helps the running game of the RB's. Kelly has to be a complete passer to really be a "dual" threat...otherwise, he's a runner than doesn't threaten you deep enough to back you up. It equals out...Clemson is still now a dual threat team....passing by TL, running by ETN and the RB's. They still have to try to stop both with Trevor in...but now the QB injury risk should probably go down some.

Re: KB will still see some good playing time, I think

Posted: Sep 24, 2018 1:28 PM

One of the GT defenders said that they knew what to expect with KB in the game, but they didn't with TL. All teams on our schedule knew that KB was't a big threat down field, every single one one of them knew, and none better than Nick Saban!!!

I'm sure that just like Jalen Hurts at Bama, Kelly Bryant thinks he is capable of becoming a high round NFL draft pick if given the playing time. In both cases, they just are not even on any teams wish list for quarterback. Neither is accurate enough passing to strike fear in the hearts of opposing teams, so they can stack the box and dare them to pass the ball. Both Tua at Bama, and Trevor Lawrence at Clemson cause opposing teams to respect the pass, which allows the running game to be more effective. Clemson could likely win every single regular season game with Kelly Bryant or even Chase Brice as the starter. They can't beat Alabama or UGA with them though. The only chance Clemson has to do that rests squarely on the shoulders of number 16, and he had better have had enough reps to be up to the task. Kelly Bryant has given everything he has to the team...but the kind of talent Trevor Lawrence has is God given, and Kelly Bryant can not create that talent. Nobody can, and he will never become Deshaun Watson, no matter how hard he tries.

I know that it was purely a confidence booster when DW4 made the statement that KB was as good or better than he was, and I think that KB read to much into that statement. And that is one that I wish that DW4 hadn't made bc I think that he gave KB confidence that he should have had to work much harder for....

This is exactly what I was expecting ( and predicting) and I think it is the perfect approach from Dabo and Co. Kelly playing more early in the season to get Trevor some time to get the feel of things. Then shift the playing time to Trevor if he handles it well - which he has, and now we will see more and more of Trevor as the season goes on. I agree the next goal is to get him ready to play a complete game against a great defense. I just don’t know who on our schedule will provide that test...

Just bc TL is starting does not mean that KB will not play.

Kelly Bryant redshirt????

Guess now Kelly Bryant will redshirt. He has played at the max games by NCAA rules. Do we see more of Chase Brice? Interesting development....

That's up to him....hopefully he stays and gives the team a good backup. In the end, you still have to account for possible injuries and such...we need a good #2 back there ready if needed. He'll still get used some, whether that be package calls or after we get big leads, not sure....the move is more likely to get faster and higher scoring starts. Fact is, we haven't started great in any of the 4 games played to date. But Trevor seems to move the ball better the first series he enters. It was only a matter of time.

Hopefully KB stays 2nd.

I trust him to get us out of a tough jam if TL goes down. But Chase does not fill me with the same confidence.

not being the starter? It's the same situation w/ Hurts at Alabama. Neither Bryant nor Hurts is going to play QB in the NFL. They don't have the passing skills. Might as well get the degree and go make some money in something else.

KB is talented enough to play other positions other than QB, and if I was in his shoes right now, that is exactly what I would do....

Inevitable Course Of Action. . . If K.B. honest w/self

IF KB is honest with himself and is aware of all the talented QB's who are strong on the passing side of the position; he would know this was coming. There is a chance he does not know that. I think TE would suit him in our offense. He "should know all the plays"! He should know all the protections! He is a big target and it would give him a leg up on any chance of making it to the NFL. B/C it was never going to be at QB.
Tajh Boyd didn't make the NFL to frame it in it's correct perspective!

In some ways, he is probably relieved!

Absolutely, he could red shirt the rest of the season, and come back next season at another position that could get him some looks from the NFL scouts!!!! That would be the smartest thing for him to do if he is thinking NFL, bc he would have never made it to the NFL as a pro QB!!!

i figured more playing time for TL was in the cards....had to be. but, i figured Dabo would give Kelly one more start and see what he could do. at the end of the day though, it's about wins and losses and Saban showed the nation that against UGA in the Natty. if i were Dabo, id put my arm around Kelly and tell him he wasnt going to be playing on Sundays at the QB position anyway and how about taking some reps at safety, reciever, etc. that worked out pretty well for braxton miller from ohio state!

Congratualtions TL and thanks KB. Now, what kind of nightmare would it be if both TL and KB were on the field at the same time? Who's going to end up with the ball, is it a run or is it a pass, or ......................? There would probably be several D Coordinators pulling their hair out!

The spread should shift in our favor big. Let's see what happens.

Clemson Class/Dabo Class Acts!

Making the decision now giving KB the opportunity to not play from here on out and possibly be a graduate transfer or redshirt is pure class.
It shows he cares about KB!
Hopefully, that fact is not lost on any of the players who were more in the KB camp! Hopefully it hit home with all that a bunch of places can care less about you when your eligibility is used up. Not here!
Why this program will always be winners! Regardless of what the scoreboard says from time to time! Clemson Football is founded on the right stuff!

I'm happy about this and IMO it's definitely the right decision at the right time.

With that being said, I feel pretty bad for KB...He's been nothing but a stand-up Clemson man through this whole process and with everyone doubting him. KB is a true Tiger

For KBs sake, let him be 2nd string where he only comes out if TL our for extended period. He can still redshirt and play 1 more season.

Give TL a chance. But he needs to work on his communication skills with the press. Watch his interviews.

Defenses will have to spread out now and not load the box and the receivers and running backs will feast on this style of offense.

Especially with the arm strength and accuracy that TL has in his game. The coverage from our opponents will have to be tight or they will get burned, and that will lead to a lot of PI calls I would think....
