Paul Finebaum explains how Georgia cost Alabama a chance at beating Clemson

The SEC media analysts are still trying to figure out in their heads how Alabama got stomped by Clemson 44-16 in this past season's College Football Playoff Nat Read Update »

can you imagine if the coots hadn't fired the coach that finally got them their first bowl victory in 1994 after 102 years of existence?

what if Jeff Scott played as a Gamecock and was there now coordinating their recruiting? Yikes.
thanks coots. thanks for being total idiots.

+3 TUs.

You make great points, both about the importance of the Scott family and how much better U5c might be with Jeff there.

However, your point about the overriding idiocy of the U5c culture trumps both your other points. While nepotism is not new in Columbia, they have no history of embracing a coach or his family to the point of a teenage kid wanting to come back after growing up. Unless their coach comes to town with a NC on his résumé, he won't be allowed to stick around long enough for his kids to 'fall in love' with the place. And what's to love anyway? I respect those who pledge "Forever to Thee", but in my judgment that is simply a subjective reflection on the investment they themselves have made. (Including one of my children)

Clemson IS different. Not always--we have made some coaches eager to leave, too--but under Tommy and Dabo the culture has embraced the coaches and their families. Jack Leggett and, if he leaves, Brad Brownell would agree that our love for them while here far exceeds any bad feelings caused by their terminations, to the point that i could see their kids coming here in some circumstances.

Sorry for the ramble. Your post got me thinking again about the different cultures.

Of all the idiotic things he has said, this may be the most idiotic! Someone should get a top 30 list going on this dum dum!
He was the one that really got the ball rolling on "this being Nick Sabans most explosive; most complete team" since he has been at Alabama thing going!
Now, this great team, can't beat an ACC team?
So, Georgia, LSU, Florida, A&M, Auburn, Kentucky are just hot "blazzin" garbage then Paul! They couldn't touch the "non-coached" talented baby elephants!
Couldn't come close. Well Georgia had a shot; but I guess ONE OF THE OTHER DUMB COACHES N. SABAN LET WALK IS A "BAD COACH TOO"!
N. Saban if he is all that should have "coached up the coaches then"! And again, it did not deter the analyst from calling them the best team EVER!
Just dumb!

Alabama can't win when they have to face real competition. Bama's dynasty was built on signing more talent than anyone else. Now UGA is going the same thing.

Dabo Swinney built Clemson with UGA in our backyard, Spurrier kicking our butt on and off the field for the first few years, and FSU consistently having the top recruiting class in the conference. It was a long, hard, slow process, and now we are reaping the rewards.

Really?? Who in their right mind puts any credence in what this bald head, dumbo ear looking jock sniffer says. The whole country saw Bama get their tail kicked. If Georgia Auburn, LSU Ohio State, Oklahoma, Michigan or any other team would have shown up that Monday night in Santa Clara they would have gotten the same beatdown Bama got. Why can't these SEC goofballs admit they got their tales kicked. Stop with the excuses.

Question for Ms. Finebum. Where was Clemson's recruiting ranked? You can rank players all you want, that does not mean as much when you get on the field! Dabo recruits players with HEART FIRST, then the most Talented. True Heart makes up for more than people realize!
Do the names Refrow or Bowlware ring a bell?

So, it had nothing to do with Clemson's great team or that we had a great QB that GA didn't get or that we snatched Mr. Ross right out from under Saban's nose or...
Pathetic reasoning.

What if Bama or UGA would have had to play ND in the playoffs, could either of them beat ND. I say that ND probably had the best defense that we played all season, and I would bet (and I'm not a betting man) that ND would have scored more points on Bama and UGA than they did us, and neither would have scored as many points on ND as we did!!! A game against ND with either Bama or UGA would be a toss up of who would win!!!

Playoffs? UGA couldn't handle the Sugar Bowl.

ND had less talent but better coaching than Alabama and UGA. ND played us a lot tougher than Bama, especially on defense.

How could anything he says after the fact that he was the entire time before the game was ever played how Bama would beat Clemson, and how TL wouldn't hold up under the Bama defensive pressure. What does his words mean after the game that he declared that Bama would destroy Clemson, they don't mean Jack chit, and anybody that would listen to what he has to say now, is just as retarded as Paul Finebaum truly is!!!

It took us exactly the first half of FB for us wear Bama's A S S out. They did not score a point in the second half of the game, and that was after they had a chance to make adjustments. Our guys kicked dirt in their face after they made half time adjustments, and that was with us playing more and more 3d and 4th team guys through out the entire last part of the 3d and the 4th quarter!!!

My Dawgs did not come to play. Blame it on the coaches ... blame it on the players ...

Bottom line, elite teams don't have those moments. Definitely the a low point for Kirby and his Dawgs. The question will be to begin 2019 ... Was it a set back or will they bounce back?

Only time will tell.

(By the way, I don't get what the "Ragin' Cajun of the the SEC" was trying to say ... he just gets payed for saying stuff ...

Prediction: Trevor will be the next Peyton Manning by the time his NFL career is over.

:) Yep, and they forgot that it was said before they got the chit beat out of them, that Bama was going into the NCG with the best team in the history of Alabama FB. Someone really should ask them if it meant that Clemson was better than the best team that Bama had ever had in Alabama history. I mean we had to of been with the beat down that we put on them. It was the worst beating that Saban had ever suffered in his college FB career, and we did the same in the college FB career of Urban Meyer!!!

No matter what any of them say about Dabo and Clemson, none of them can erase the worse losses in Meyre's career, or in Saban's career, and Dabo Swinney and his Clemson Tigers put the worse beating on both of the two top college head coaches in the history of their college head coaching careers, and those beatings was recently with the very same 2018 seniors on the team that gave them the beatings!!!

https://www.postandcourier.com/sports/clemson/urban-meyer-suffers-worst-defeat-in-repeat-loss-to-clemson/article_afb9d7ac-cfeb-11e6-a7a4-6b8f8117c139.html

https://www.apnews.com/af0bad371b0f48829f1d38cc88c13f55

Those smart folks can't change recent history with anything they can come up with or say, excuses are useless as far as what the sporting history will remember. It will always be that Dabo Swinney and his Clemson Tigers slayed both the giants in college FB in the 2016 season, Meyer and Ohio State 31-0 in the 2016 Playstation Fiesta Bowl, then we beat Bama 35-31 9 days later in the NCG. Two seasons later we beat the best Bama team that Saban has ever had at Bama 44-16 in the 2018 season NCG. No matter what is said a 100 years from now, sporting history will always tell the truth. Dabo Swinney and his Clemson Tiger FB team was a Giant slayer!!! Go Tigers

Come on Paul take off the Crimson glasses and call it what it really was. CLEMSON TOOK BAMA TO THE WOODSHED AND WHIPPED THAT TAIL!

Re: TNET: Paul Finebaum explains how Georgia cost Alabama a chance at beating Clemson

[5]

They were badly outcoached, but also badly outplayed on a talent level where the players from Alabama were clearly confused, winded, and psychologically out of sorts. You could see the Crimson Tide players on the sidelines looking crushed and hopeless rather than resolute to focus their abilities on the next series. Finebaum is half right in that they were out coached, but they were also outoughed by a better team with bigger hearts who relied on unlikely heroes like Hunter Renfrow and Chase Brice to help them on their journey.

Finebaum is a respectable analyst, btw, but tut tut to him for attributing a historical bloodletting like that championship game to Georgia rather than the only 15 and 0 team in the last 130 years.

So Georgia recruiting potential Bama players...

So well caused them to lose the championship, but I’ve heard Clemson’s reach into Ga is why Richt is no longer there and why UGA can’t get over the hump.

Btw, if Saban had to take over defensive coaching responsibilities “early” in the season that means Saban best all those SEC teams, INCLUDING Georgia!!

It's only going to get worse in coming years. You may look back at this time and think how lucky you were to hang within 28 for the game. Hell, only by Dabo's grace and a 5 yard line walkoff you saved yourself from a 35 point loss this time.

Exactly!

Even in silly, "sec-logic" they should be able to understand how that makes the rest of their "vaunted" conference look. It is especially bad b/c Kirby is a former Saban assistant!
If he was the real brains behind the operation; why couldn't he beat the other "not so good coaches" that replaced him?
Why couldn't he beat an Urban Meyer coaching tree coach over at Texas?

Silly sec-logic!

I'm losing all respect for them. Whatever happened to "humble in victory and gracious in defeat"?

I'm pretty sure Finebaum was one of the chorus who was touting this Alabama team as potentially the best of all time, *before* the game. Like a fresh-caught fish on the sand, only this could go on forever.

Moral Victories and Defeats... it just means more. I'm disgusted as this means Gamecocks , in some twisted SEC way, has more National Championships than we do...

So basically Finebaum is saying that Georgia deserved to play Clemson in the Natty and Alabama didn't deserve to be there...

I'll agree with Finebaum...Alabama didn't deserve to be there...

Alabama is no longer the best...Yep agreed.

So you are saying Lil Nickie got his ### kicked in every phase of the game? I thought Saban was the greatest coach ever. Now you say he hired a bunch of guys that don't know how to coach? Guess Saban is also one of those coaches that can't coach huh? I absolutely love how Finebum opens his mouth and makes Alabama and the SEC look like the whiny little beotches that they are.LMMFAO!
