How is it possible that Las Vegas gives the same likelihood for Alabama to win the National Championship they do for Clemson and Oklahoma. They are obviously assuming Alabama gets in to the playoffs as a "wild card." In my mind, that's only possible if Ohio State beats Wisconsin. Can some of you experts help me out here? I know Bama is the darling of the college football universe but I just don't think they'll get there. Of course, I do understand that all those fancy casinos exist in Las Vegas because "the house" rarely loses. In my mind, it would be a great travesty for them to get in to the playoffs. Go Tigers!

I think they kept them high because if the make it in they have big game experience and could win it. If the odds were higher and they make it in those betting on higher odds could make some big money.

My guess at it!!

Yep, if Bama does get in, their odds will go from 4-1 (20%)

Nov 27, 2017, 10:49 AM

back to like 3-2 (40%). If Ohio State gets in i think you will see something fairly similar.

From what i have seen, Vegas still thinks Bama and Ohio State are the two best teams in CFB. Clemson is probably in the 3-5 range.

Alabama's best chance for getting in is if OU loses to TCU.

Nov 27, 2017, 10:36 AM [ in reply to Re: TNET: Latest National Championship odds for Clemson ]

If OU and OSU win, AL has a 50 50 shot of getting in over OSU imo.

I hope they don't in.

I just bet last night on Bama not getting in the playoff. I think OSU may still get the nod over Bama if they were to beat Wisconsin.

It's basically a bet straight up on OU over TCU and I'm feeling good about that. TCU's safety is out for fighting the last game and TCU couldn't hang with OU last time.

Basically, Bama is viewed as about 50/50 to get into

the playoff, but if they do get in, they will be a pretty big favorite to win it.

I don't bet, but if I did...

Miami is logically the best play there if you considered all the possibilities at somewhere around 60-40 at worst. I hope the bookies are right because those odds mean they are basically counting on us to beat Miami. For similar reasons the next best play is Wisconsin, but they are counting on Ohio State beating Wisconsin. Odds for Oklahoma, Clemson, and Auburn are just about right in my opinion. Alabama is helped by the fact that Clemson, Oklahoma, OR Wisconsin losing has a good shot of getting them in (vs. any of the rest of us needing an extra 60/40 type game).

Actually, looking a bit further...

Nov 27, 2017, 10:26 AM

Vegas is assuming that Alabama gets in over Miami if Miami beats us. That's the only way these odds work. They are also assuming Alabama gets in over TCU if TCU beats Oklahoma (that one is almost definitely correct). They aren't making a clear pick between Ohio State and Alabama if Ohio State beats Wisconsin (which is why Ohio State has better odds than Miami or TCU in addition to the fact that Vegas thinks Ohio State will beat Wisconsin).

They do this bc if they drop bama's odds people would load up on them. If they happen to get in they have a good chance to win... so the odds didn't change much
